hi! ive been curious as to know whether or not anybody has characters with different sexual orientations from heterosexual. I am not saying if you don't you need to make one right away but I was just wondering if there were some already?
I usually never give my characters a clear cut sexual orientation. most of them are left to interpretation with only a few focused on (ex: lets say said girl chara likes another girl chara, implies that she has a taste for girls but is not exactly homosexual- can be interpreted as bi etc.)

That's how I do it pretty much these days. Give a character a preference for certain characters (maybe one or two) but never outright say what sexuality they are.

A good handful of my OCs are non heterosexual, actually. But I have to agree, unless sexual orientation plays some part in the plot, I'm not going to mention it outright.
Because when it comes down to it, whatever adventures Justine has in this story have absolutely nothing to do with the fact she's bi at all. I want to respect the need of equal representation but also avoid coming off as a creator who wants to showcase their character just because of their sexuality.
Slightly unrelated topic but it seems related- apparently it's asexual awareness week so happy Asexual awareness week

yes!! I totally agree with you on the plot thing ^_^ announcing you're character is not hetero every other minute makes it seem like a big deal, when in reality it shouldn't unless maybe in the story they just came out to someone (and that's assuming wherever story is taking place is not alright with such) also!! totally not unrelated since I currently identify as asexual! (still figuring things out) thank you!! <3
edit: added a bit more to the top since it was rly short lol

Same here, I only have a couple characters that are outright heterosexual (a lot of them are not really clear cut), but since it doesnt play any part in the plot, I haven't mentioned it. Although two characters are asexual and bi, and it actually applies to their story arcs so I might mention that eventually haha. I just really don't want their sexualities influencing peoples opinions about them especially one of them thats one of my favorites and I worked really hard to develop him @@. I remember seeing a post on tumblr saying that they loved Cinna because she was asexual and thats "all that mattered" and just hhhh, hes really interesting id rather people decide on his personality and what he does if they truly like him or not rather than on something he can't change about himself.

I have a lot of characters that are heterosexual. There's only one character that I have that is genderqueer and it does add to the plot, but much later, say around season 2 or 3 for me. Another character that I have is asexual, but it doesn't add anything really to the plot.
Although I respect that people are trying to be socially diverse and accepting by putting LGBTQ* characters in their fanime, it gets a bit too social justice warrior like. There's nothing wrong with including LGBTQ* characters, it's just that if you're going to do so, don't make the whole series touch only on that.
However, if someone asks me about one of my characters being LGBTQ*, I wouldn't mind telling them. I just won't have it take away too much from the plot.

OH MY GOD THAT PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH. Like "oh man look at this well-represented black asexual" or something and I'm like cool, but if the story isn't doing anything for me or the character doesn't play a significant role I just don't care. Liking a character solely because they represent a minority isn't cool. In fact putting them on a pedestal isn't really doing much. Ok I should stop before I make this the Missy rants about social justice on Tumblr thread.

I never really bothered to give my characters sexual orientations because it wouldn't really matter since my characters spend most of their time thinking about saving or destroying the human race because Sandor is trying to destroy humanity. Nobody is gonna go around asking legendary heroes what their sexual orientations are while they're trying to defeat an evil prophecy god. Actually... that gives me a hilarious idea for a Sandor Goes To School character...

yes I understand this. I believe this is also crummy because it removes the significance of said character. many creators of (ex: hideaki anno of evangelion) end up having this problem because fan bases will usually focus on pairings (tho which can be admittedly fun, should not be the only thing focused on) within a work instead of the meaning its trying to give
also social justice posts can be interesting to read. its important to keep an open mind

I have a panromantic/pansexual intersexed character that identifies as female aha
Other than that I have a closeted homosexual, another homosexual but never outright said, two transgenders dating (they're the cutest couple in the world btw), an aromantic/asexual, and several other pansexuals. Most people from the planet my story takes place on don't really care for gender as long as it's love (except for those from certain countries).
But yeh das me

In my upcoming fanime "Don't Take My Hat" there is a flamboyant homosexual elephant character. I wasn't the one that came up with the idea originally, but he's my character now I suppose. I'm considering making one of my other characters bisexual but I'm not sure about that yet. Most of my characters will not even show that they are attracted to any other character because my stories usually don't last long enough to reach those plot points or my stories will not necessarily be centered around romance.

There some in Mahou Shojo-Chan that I can't tell you about. I can tell you about Momo Moech-Chan tho and how the kawaii ship of her and Eroge's alterself will never be a thing because Eroge's alterself does not do girls. Momo does tho.

I know I posted here before but I neglected to mention something I'm planning for a future story, and I feel it fits, seeing as the topic is LGBT characters.
Most of my characters are cisgender, and sadly that has to do a lot with writing what I know. But for a future story that starts with two friends growing up together, it turns out one of the friends is a trans woman who is hoping to undergo surgery when she gets older. This confuses the other friend, who is an autistic girl who has trouble coping with change, and she must learn to accept her friend for who she always was.
There also happens to be conflict because the girl imagined marrying her friend because she did not know that she was trans yet. She only saw her friend as a boy because that was what she was on the outside. They even joke about marriage in the future, but as her friend grows up, she also realises she is pansexual and in love with the main girl. So yeah, it gets confusing.
Yeah I rambled on but I just wanted to get this idea out there.

a lot of my ocs are cis too actually and I have been trying to get more diversity in there :^( I have a few whose genders are debatable though
one of the main ones is Kougu, they are definitely not cis
due to how kougu was raised, they did not see a difference between genders, or were really exposed to any sort of roles, so kougu's pronouns are constantly shifting
kougu never corrects her clan members when they name her a different gender from her sex, due to the fact kougu doesn't really care
I will refer to kougu as "she" for certain conveniences but mostly try to use they/them, kougu's biologically a female, but does not really care about the gender they are associated with (p.s. their eyepatch was drawn on the wrong side in this pic orz)

I never really like to decide sexual orientations, since I don't think it's particularly necessary for any of my stories. Even though they have focus on romance.
I guess the big bad to SRR is genderless but it's for a reason (you'll just hafta wait). And Rizu, Yumeno and Miki (from respective series) have interest/a preference in girls, I guess. I guess.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I feel like I'd rather place priority over the actual character than what they identify as and who they like. I mean representation is good and all, but I wouldn't want to make a character solely for that reason.
