Yeah, all it really is is a lot of careful color picking. It can be a nice tool when you learn to use it how you want to. the shading is just a gradient of colors from the lightest to dark (an example, i did this for each color starting at the base color.) and i just gradually went through either lighter or darker so its a little more subtle, except the hair that was a different process entirely.

Your stuff pretty naisu too the textures are pretty well implemented, they add a very nice dimension.
