Would it be fundamentally correct to consider "one episode" fanimes as movies, since the fanime itself was canceled before the next episode could ever be created?
Regular movies last about 45 minutes or more, but I'm talking in the sense that the show is "over and done with". Yes, movies can have sequels but that's optional. It's very ironic to call something an episode, or even part of a series, if it isn't continuous. In this case, there is no previous or next episode to follow up on. So what do you think? Is it reasonable to call something a movie although it was intended to be part of series, that is now called off after the first episode?
I'd rather call them movies, so the people aren't misled into thinking there is more.

That is a good question. However, this is how I put it.
I don't call them "episodes" or "movies". I call them "OVAs". It's a little loose definition but that's just how I role.

It really depends on your intentions of the production are!
If the animation is short, but concludes in a way you seem happy with, I would just call it an "Animated Short" or an "OVA"! Otherwise, if the episode is very open ended and you intend to leave the audience wanting more, I would call it a "One-Shot!" People wouldn't expect more out of it but still appreciate it at face value!

Animated short, special, ova, movie
I think it all depends on the creator's intention.
