As I'm sure many of you know, 3D animation is very popular nowadays and it is used in most mediums of entertainment. Movies, Cartoons, Anime, Video Games, etc. Now let's focus down on stuff that effects us, content creators, a little more closely.
Anime and cartoons have started using 3D technology, and I've noticed that in anime they take advantage of that to create more complex animation sequences that would've required a lot more thought and skill (and most importantly: TIME AND MONEY) to pull off unless they had access to this sort of technology. For example, the idolM@ster anime that came out a couple years ago, they used 3D animation to do their dance cycles and the camera transitions, but it didn't look like MMD (thank goodness) and it still had a lot of animation towards the moves while looking classy.
Another example, Kill la kill uses 3D animation in a new scenes like so:
Though sometimes in the working on 3D animation, it can be done poorly or they get lazy and don't spruce it up with more, what I call, necessary animation and frames. This much can be obvious in this gif here:
The walk cycle is choppy and lazy and makes me cringe every time I see it. (I'm hoping they'll re-animate that once they release the whole series on Blu-Ray.)
On another note, there are some who take advantage of the 3D technology and use it in production to make some full sequences. For example, the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Anime had their entire opening sequences to be made using 3D. Examples:
While I'm not a huge fan of anime made entirely of 3D Animation (I find it tacky and unnatural), I very much like the use of it to help our realm of animation techniques advance. I also find inspiration from it, seeing that if I had access to such devices (which I believe I technically could using a free google-run 3D program that I found a while back?) I would be able to pull off some really cool perspective and animation cycles.
So what I am asking you all, is what is your opinion of the use of 3D CG-esque styles in today's media?
