Merle felt something sink in their heart. Jiang... She's... been really nice. What do you mean...? Merle blinked over at their friend, trying not to let the emotions in the cabin get to them. Something. Was. So. Very very very VERY. Wrong. Instinctively they reached for the Jerboa girl's hand. Didn't want a friend to get hurt.
And a friend did get hurt.
Merle squeaked in shock, jumping to break Theo's fall. Except they bumped into the side of maid's apron. Th-the maid... here... h-how? "Ma'am!" they almost yelled. "Th-Theo's a good person! Please don't - punish - him, he - he didn't..." They dared not make any movement toward the bunny boy. Dared not look. Then said what was true and could be said. "Theo's hurt... Please help us." Merle looked up at the maid, a pleading look that made one feel as if this child was never the cheery sort.
THUMP
Merle clung to both the maid and the body of the fox child from the other day, as well as tightened their grip on Lucy's hand. Bracing for impact. They felt... safer near them than near him by the fire.

Theo coughed violently from the blow, his wings stung from being forced against the wall. As soon as he could see, he looked at the fish bits that landed on his clothing. “You…” He glared at Earnest with hatred in his piercing gold eyes.
Ignoring the other children, Theo hobbled up and began to charge towards Earnest claw-like hand stretched outward, then-
“Let me go!” Theo had completely abandoned any sense of decency. He tried spreading his wings to shake Machi off, along with a few kicks here and there, hands still trying to reach Earnest. “Get off me, you stupid old hag!”
Theo turned to Earnest. “You buck-toothed piece of shit! I’m gonna tear you apart like the sorry prey that you-“ he broke out into coughing again. His insides that felt like they were urging to jump out of his body, and in his rage he couldn’t breathe properly. "Ha... hack.. kffff.."
Was that Merle talking? They were trying to help... what a mess this was. Theo had lost his temper, and all he could bring himself to do was struggle and writhe while trying to regain his breath. "Huff... lemme... go... now-"

Lucy became very scared of how Earnest became from a nice fellow to...... . I don't even know what to call it......Lucy looked over to Merle at that moment. She held onto there hand tightly out of fear. All of things that are happening at once. With Earnest hurting Theo and.. .. this is too much. This is not what I was wanting......"Why... is this happening" She ran to follow Merle. She ran as fast as she could to catch up to them. As she did, Lucy crouched down and started to tear up. "I'm scared...." she wept to herself.

Theo turned to Earnest. “You buck-toothed piece of shit! I’m gonna tear you apart like the sorry prey that you-“ he broke out into coughing again. His insides that felt like they were urging to jump out of his body, and in his rage he couldn’t breathe properly. "Ha... hack.. kffff.." Earnest let out a long whistle as Theo thrashed in the maid's arm. "Look at that temper! Oh boy oh boy. Someone's angry!" He looked with innocent eyes from Carmella to Machi with his hands behind his back. "He smashed me fish!" He nodded to the remains on the floor. "I offered it to 'im and he said no!" Carmella frowned at the child, letting Machi deal with Theo before going up to Earnest and going down on one knee to be eye level with him. Earnest cocked his head and puckered his lips in a pout. "You don't believe me, Keeper Carmella? That's a shame. I did me best. I really---." He was silenced by Carmella's touch, flinching as he expected a shock that never came. Instead her fingers softly trailed down his arm until reaching his hand and pulling it forward until the two were nose to nose. "You stop this," Carmella whispered quietly. She kept his wide eyes locked with hers. "Don't make me be strict with you, Earnest." The boy's eyes started to pool with tears as he sniffed, his body quivering from the close contact with the Keeper. He made a move to lift up his other hand to wipe the tears away, but Carmella stopped him and held it firmly next to his side. "No." She told him with fierce eyes. "If you're going to be a sniveling child then cry until it's actually believable." Earnest's shoulders shook as his bottom lip quivered, the tears pooling from his eyes and dripping onto the floor. "You're so mean, stop it!" His voice was hoarse as he brought a foot up and stomped it hard into the floor, so the wood splintered. "Stop it, you're embarrassing me! Stop it! STOP IT!" Carmella released him from her grip and he lunged forward, looking like he was going to strangle her, but instead wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. He sobbed into her shoulder uncontrollably, leaving it soaked with tears. "There, there..." Carmella whispered, the exhaustion in her voice clear as she picked him up, still crying, and gently rubbed his back. "You did this to yourself, Earnest." THUMPCarmella's head shot towards the sound. Earnest stopped crying. "What the hell was that?"

Almost faster than one could blink, Earnest brought his right foot up and kicked Theo in the stomach, sending him flying backwards into the wall. The fire seemed to roar as the structure near it shook slightly from the impact. "It's alright, Theo! I didn't give it my all~!" Theo coughed violently from the blow, his wings stung from being forced against the wall. As soon as he could see, he looked at the fish bits that landed on his clothing. “You…” He glared at Earnest with hatred in his piercing gold eyes. Everything happened so quickly. Gear knew something was going to happen. He knew it. But the last thing he expected was for Earnest's sudden change in personality to lead to acts of violence. The air felt warm, tendrils of fear and anger permeating the small cabin. Gear backed again the wall the entrance was on. The smell of the fish that his roommate had quashed made him want to vomit; and yet, the bunny boy remained unfazed. What rubbed Gear the wrong way was not his seemingly out-of-the-blue behavior, but the fact that this kid was always like this and had just been fooling them all since they'd arrived. In the absence of authority, is this what he's like? Their Keeper and the maid entered the cabin just as Theo recovered, lunging at the rabbit. The tears free-flowing tears from some... the yelling from the others ... and the way one of them seemed to pass out from the shock of it all... he didn't know what the hell just happened. He was beginning to panic. His breathing rate increased and the corners of his vision began to get a little hazy. All of a sudden... THUMP!A noise could be heard resonating throughout the cabin, snapping Gear out of whatever haze he had been in. That was close, he thought, gripping his forehead. Gear couldn't be in such an emotionally charged environment right now. He needed to step outside; get some fresh air - clear his head and give things time to settle. Without further delay, he slipped out the door and into the wilderness outside. He leaned against the exterior, taking deep breathes as he calmed himself down. He didn't want his horn to appear when he had no control over it. It was dangerous. For some odd reason, the air around the cabin felt much colder than inside. It was an eerie feeling, but Gear paid it no mind. There was a well not far away. He needed a sip of water. Keeping his hand against the log of the structure, Gear guided himself along the perimeter. As he rounded the corner, his breath immediately seized. His eyes were immediately drawn to the blood splattered across the wall, and then to the mangled corpse of the scary bird lady he'd met only what might as well be a few short hours ago - Octavia. He hadn't even noticed the child standing over her clearly lifeless body. "W-wh... what- I... W... what i-is... w...hy..." he stammered, words having left him. There was so much blood. So, so much. At first he wasn't sure if the body even belonged to Octavia, but as his vision darkened, he noticed the unmistakeable bald head of the corpse catching the reflection of the light. He slowly opened his mouth, letting out near inaudible wailing before his voice finally decided to cooperate. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

A smile spread across Machi's face as insults were hurled her way by the angry little bird boy as she kept her grip tight around his collar. "I don't think you're in any position to be giving orders young man~! In fact, I think you'd best not struggle, if you know what's good for you." She cooed. Her taunts, however, were quickly brought to a halt as an alarmingly loud thump was heard against the outside wall of the building. Machi dropped Theo to the ground and looked to Carmella, a panicked look in her eye. "Perhaps.... One of the children have returned?" She asked, trying her best to sound hopeful even with the anxiety beginning to boil over. "Should we.... go check it out?" Her gaze was so focused on Carmella that she hadn't even noticed Gear leave... Nothing... They groaned in annoyance as people failed to leave the cabin. They trudged over to the body, clamping their jaw around the girl's lifeless neck as they dragged her a few feet away from the wall for another throw. Before they got the chance however, they heard the faint sound of footsteps, followed by an outrageously loud scream.
Silence them... any way you can... Instinct kicked in as a new person presented themselves to the child. A very loud boy, the likes of whom the crocodile boy wasn't exactly fond of. He dropped the girl from their jaw and turned to face the other child, panic and rage filling their eyes. They had to shut him up! He'd give them away!! Atticus got into a crouching position before leaping at Gear, knocking him too the ground with ease, given his vastly greater size (being nearly around 5'11") The boy stayed atop Gear, growling angrily at the boy. " QUIET!!" He growled, blood dripping from the his teeth and onto the child's face. If he was going to keep shouting, there was only one thing he could think to do. Atticus opened his jaws as wide as they could stretch as he prepared to clamp down on the boy's head...

Atticus opened his jaws as wide as they could stretch as he prepared to clamp down on the boy's head... Gear was caught off guard, knocked to the ground by a force he hadn't even noticed to be there in the first place. This... this monster was so heavy and repulsive. Gear squirmed under its weight, kicking his legs to no avail. The creature possessed far too much strength. The growling of the beast flared every instinct in his body. If this kept up, Gear's horn would jut out against his will. He had to hold on... Then the beast spoke. The fact that such an abominable creature could speak floored him. The wide-open jaws of the monster petrified him. He clamped his mouth shut, as ordered by his assailant. Blood dripped onto his face as he lay there quivering, simultaneously hoping his horn wouldn't eject, and hoping that one of the adults heard him...

In a sick turn of events, the weather predicted the people. The happy bunny went mad and beat up Theo. Sylvie would have interfered if it weren't for their promise. She stood quiet smelling more and more blood. It was everywhere, especially outside. This made Sylvie instinctively cough out acid once again, but after waiting long enough she began to come to a conclusion. "There's something outside. I can smell it. Dead bodies, and, a wild beast attacking that kid. Its outside the cabin, not too far from here. I know all of you are scared, but you have a chance of making out alive. And I don't, because, I know myself. I will buy you time to live your lives at the cost of my own. Why? 'CAUSE I'M SYLVIE SVIE! NOBODY HERE FORGET THAT NAME OKAY?" After a brief silence, Sylvie continued, "I'm sorry I never introduced myself to any of you before, but... I'll at least say goodbye." ((Symbol is at the top left and signature is at the top right)) Sylvie looked over to Theo "I'm sorry Theo, I have to break your promise. I can't help yelling. I can't help running into danger. But, most of all I can't help taking a challenge. The deal is off. You can eat your lunch, cause I wont be needing mine anymore..." Sylvie gave Theo a badge with a symbol on it containing a trunk with three beams, as well as a couple of old jacks she used to play with often, and her own lunch. "To remember me.." "and.. Goodbye" Before listening to another word Sylvie rushed out the cabin door at full sprint on her toes. She spat on her left hand while holding onto her medication. Her hand started morph into a terrible poison. Instead of toying with danger, she decided to swallow death whole. Running straight for Atticus she screamed, "LET GO OF THAT CHILD YOU UGLY, ROTTEN, FLEA!! IF YOU'LL KILL US THEN I'M TAKING YOU DOWN WITH ME!!" With full force, Sylvie attempted to lunge her fist as far down Atticus' throat as possible, even if it only meant she was saving Gear enough time to escape. This was her signature move: "ACID PUNCH!!"

Atticus froze as Gear went silent, the scare tactic seeming to have worked on the boy. They stood over him for a few moments, trying to decide the best course of action to ensure their own survival. After all, the boy had seen Atticus. Would Gear tell the others? How many others WERE there? Would they come after him? Not like he wasn't used to that...
Atticus' decision was made for him as another person arrived, shouting at him before attempting to shove their hand down the boy's throat. Well, he wasn't about to just let that happen. The croc clamped his mouth shut before the girl's fist reached him and jumped off of Gear's body, landing a couple feet away. They growled at the girl before standing up on their two legs as an attempt to intimidate her with his height.
Atticus stared at the two for a moment before swinging his enormous tail at Sylvie like a club..

Atticus stared at the two for a moment before swinging his enormous tail at Sylvie like a club.. Sylvie's body curled around the large tail through sheer impact of the blow. She flew back, rolled on the ground, and slammed onto a rock due from the force of this attack. Her arm was pulsing with purple ooze. She struggled to get back up, limping towards the beast in front of her. Without enough breath to shout she commanded gear, "Run... while you still can." Sylvie held her arms out to Atticus moving forward at a walking pace. She was going to try to grab onto the creature... ..Unfortunately before she was able to take her second step, her body was engulfed in acid. Her body melted away as she let out a small, "victory" to her biggest failure yet.

Carmella released Earnest a moment later, on her feet and staring at the entrance in a moment of shock. Earnest reached up to grab hold of her again, the tears still flowing freely from his face, but she pushed his away. She shushed him harshly as he let out a pathetic whine. She moved quickly after that, running out the door to survey the scene. She held back a gasp as she witnessed the bodies of Sylvia and Octavia on the ground, along with a terrified looking Gear. She didn't even notice Earnest had followed her out, swiping at the tears on his face as he too took in the scene. "Looks like they're dead," He said, a smile starting to come back despite the redness of his eyes. A small giggle escaped his lips and he covered his mouth with his hands. "Carmella~! Two more are gone~!" He cocked his head at the strange croc child who hovered nearby. "What's that? It's all bloody!" Carmella was frozen, her lips parts slightly as she mouthed something, staring at the beastly boy with horror, fear, and....recognition. "...A-Atticus..."

Machi watched as Carmella ran out to investigate the screaming, the woman turning to the children before telling them. "Stay here and stay quiet!" She picked herself up off the ground and followed the Keeper outside, her eyes widening as it was confirmed Octavia had died, along with Sylvia, unfortunately. Machi cupped a hand over her mouth in shock at the culprit, a monstrous child covered head to toe in the blood of the other orphans.
What...? What did she say..? Atticus' brow furrowed as he backed away from the sizzling body of the girl he'd walloped with his tail. More people seemed to be pouring from the cabin, the child getting angrier and angrier as they kept showing up. They weren't running. They were supposed to run from him! The croc let out a huff of annoyance as only one thought continued to cloud his mind. I'm hungry....If he was to eat any time soon, it would seem he'd have no other choice than to make a meal of one of the people standing in front of him. And which better than the smallest, and likely weakest, target. Atticus leaned forward and sprinted towards Earnest, jaws agape.

Atticus stared at the two for a moment before swinging his enormous tail at Sylvie like a club.. By some miracle, the beast had released Gear. Even though he was free to run, he still laid there unmoving, eyes shut tightly. He refused to budge, refused to even breathe. He had to regain control over his emotions, but how? The whole reason he left the cabin was to prevent the horn from appearing. If... if that happened... NO! he mentally shouted. If the horn appeared, someone might get hurt again. Just like... like... just like my mother! His eyes flew open as he heard a thud, sitting up quickly. Sylvie's body curled around the large tail through sheer impact of the blow. She flew back, rolled on the ground, and slammed onto a rock due from the force of this attack. Her arm was pulsing with purple ooze. Her body melted away as she let out a small, "victory" to her biggest failure yet. One of the other kids from his group had left the cabin. When did they do that? The girl was fending off the monster. Protecting him. But she didn't know how terrifying that beast was. It killed the bird lady! Could she feel no fear? She struggled to get back up after she was knocked down, and even riddled with bumps and bruises from the blow, she still fought. She started limping towards the monster, and Gear reached out for her. "W-wait... y-you can't...! It'll kill you!" The girl hadn't heard him. Whether it was because she chose to ignore his words or simply because she couldn't hear his desperate wheezing, he didn't know. And he would never know, the girl having dissolved into a puddle of flesh and bone before his very eyes. "No!" he shouted. Gear scrambled forward on his hands and knees, rushing to what was left of the girl... his hero. He knelt over her, hands looking for something, anything to touch, but alas, she was already long gone. Tears welled up in his eyes. How could this happen...? Did she die because of him? Because he was weak? Because he wasn't strong enough to face who he was and his past? Gear wished desperately for a chance to fix things; to make them right. The snake girl and the bird lady... old friends and severed bonds... His mom... He wished he could fix it all.And just like that, whatever psychological lock he had adorned to prevent his horn from appearing released and clattered down to the ground, dissolving in the small puddle of acid just like the tears dripping from his chin and the bones of the girl he didn't even know. He sat there frozen, a bright luminescent glow beginning to emanate from the center of his forehead.

Merle flinched at the scream of terror from outside, knuckles turning white on their free hand, now tightly clenched into a fist. Upon the bunny boy's comment on what was going on outside, Merle whirled around to check the cabin for whoever was among them. There was obviously the bunny boy, the hyena boy, the fox child, the maid, the Keeper, poor Theo crumpled on the floorboards, Lucy by the badger's side, and... No Gear. Merle felt something icy lodge in their stomach. That scream... was him... Merle looked at Lucy, to see if she would follow, and then ran out to the railing. A snake girl was melting into the dirt. Merle could see the sickly green glow of her scales left behind. They didn't want to join her. But one look at Gear's trembling form and they had to go bring him back. Bring their new friend back alive. The badger child padded swiftly, softly down the stairs, and then lightly tapped Gear on the shoulder. "Gear, buddy. It's me, Merle... Let's get you back to safety, okay?"

Theo fell to the floor on his knees. He keeled over, gripping his stomach, the shock of receiving Earnest’s kick catching up to him. He felt nauseous, his heartrate wouldn’t calm down…. it felt like what had happened the month before he-
His thoughts were interrupted by Sylv’s proclamation. He looked up to see what she had left him, and his stomachache got exceedingly worse. “W-wait…” he said, meekly. But she was already gone.
Don’t throw up… you’ve barely eaten, you can’t afford to get sick.
Theo tried to catch his breath, desperately trying to overcome the mix of anger and unease. Maybe he deserved what he got. Maybe this was karma for lying and sneaking into the orphanage. For running away.
And now everyone, even the adults, were upset about something. People were exiting the cabin.
“What’s h-happening?..” he said as his breathing finally became steady.
