Red sat at the table, tensely listening. There were different amounts of kids that knew them by any one of the four children's names, and those that didn't know any may meet them at the wrong time when it's someone else. Being consistently misidentified by others put the on edge, but they were too scared to correct anyone. They were to scared to even reveal that they had never even met many of the people here. Hearing that the only one they had chance to talk to was no longer present, though Bru would not reveal how, lead them to shying away from the others more than they would have. Red was more interested in sports and activities than they were having a ton of friends anyway. Especially not friends who wouldn't identify them.. It made them more uncomfortable to be around people like that anyway. "So please! Be on your best behavior."Red scoffed slightly at the command. "Bru say I don' go'a listen to you.." They mumbled lowering they head as the shifted a suspicious glance towards the woman before looking down. "Ain't lookin' for no new parents 'nyway." Red pulled their legs up to their chest. There were enough reasons for them all to think that. One thing stood out to Red. 'It's not like they'll understand us...' Red didn't know that there was anyone they could be sure about, even their own peers. And they were especially wary of the rabbit one, after what they heard from Bru.

They'd dragged him out of the forest. They cut his hair, they locked him in a room, they forced him to learn some foreign language of grunts and sounds, and they locked a collar around his neck as though he were some sort of animal. It was ridiculous, aggravating, annoying, and above all else... {Spoiler - Click to View}
Humiliating... All these words he'd learned over the past week, from the woman who held his leash or by hearing other children talk from outside his room. Atticus (he'd learned now that this was his name, although, he wasn't sure what made it his.) followed Carmella begrudgingly out to meet the rest of the children, his cheeks flushing red out of frustration. He tugged on his collar and leash, looking at Carmella with pleading eyes. "Take off, please?" He growled. His sentences were simple, but they sufficed. ((Name: Atticus Nickname: N/A Age: 16 Height: 5'11" Species: Saltwater Crocodile Abilities: Extreme jaw strength, can swim extremely well and stay submerged longer than the normal human, above average strength Pronouns: He/Him Other information: He lived in the woods nearly all his life. Has very limited understanding of human nature and society ))

Lucy was releived that the whole traumatic expirience was over. She took a deep breath. She turned to Merle "Are.... you okay?" she asked, feeling concerned.
A week has past and Lucy nerves were more calmed down, now that Atticus has been under control. It was a relief. Now is defiantly a good time to stay optimistic!Oh! The parents are going to be here? At that point, Lucy got herself dress and ready to go. She has waited for her fellow honey badger friend to get ready as well before going downstairs. "I'll be sure to do that Miss Carmella!" "Lucy looked towards where the parents are coming and the first one she sees is........

Name: Jove Waters Nickname: ~ Age: 14 Height: 5'3" Species: Leafy Sea Dragon Abilities: Can breath underwater. Color-change Camouflage. Sweats salt water. Pronouns: he/him Other information: Comes from a wealthy family that rarely let him express himself and his opinion. ((theres some minor misgendering/deadnaming in the second paragraph)) Jove snuck into the mess hall in an attempt to make himself seem rather unnoticed by the other children and staff. It wasn't that he was particularly shy, it was just that as things were now he didn't want this to be his first impression. He wanted things to be different. He hoped things would be different. Last night, before he had the chance to explain he was assigned a bed, handed a nightgown and whisked away. Jove hadn't a chance to even introduce himself, instead all the staff had to rely on was a sheet of paper stating boldly 'This is Erica! She will be staying here from now on!' Could he blame them though? They had a lot of kids to take care of, and he came in so late it was practically morning. Jove pulled at the chest of his clothes, uncomfortable with the entire ensemble. Maybe one of the kids would trade with him? Or one of the staff members would be understanding and get him a shirt and trousers. Jove looked out into the sea of possible candidates, trying to figure out who he could ask.

Theo rubbed his eyes and groaned as he sat there with the others. The past few days had left him miserable. While the presence of the crocodile scared the others, Theo wasn’t too bothered by him. Earnest wouldn’t leave him alone, which got a rise from Theo, which made Earnest talk to him more. It was hell.
He didn’t have it in him to even try to be all happy-go-lucky around the staff anymore, but did his best not to upset some of the others such as Merle and Lucy.
And now parents were coming in… Theo told himself to do his best not catch the attention of any of them.
Grumble
"Ugh, why would we not have breakfast..." he said under his breath.

"Take off, please?" He growled. His sentences were simple, but they sufficed. "Good manners," Carmella whispered to him, loosening the chain a bit. "But not right now, Atticus. Parents are coming." Her eyes softened. "You can get a good home if you behave." She turned away from him sharply, knowing the likelihood of a wild child being accepted into a normal family was miniscule. But she couldn't release him back to the woods. He'd be, oh, around 16 now? Far too close to starting to lose his affliction. If he was alone, with no knowledge of what was happening to him.... She bristled as a few unsavory memories surfaced before clearing her throat and directing her attention towards one of the parents that had arrived with a warm smile. "Welcome, Celesthia! You'll be staying on the fourth floor with the other Keepers and staff members. We're a little short on rooms right now so I hope you don't mind sharing..." She feel the sweat building up on her brow. If any other parents would even show up after last year...
Earnest scooted as close to Theo as he could, the smile he'd worn since the first day back in place and bigger than ever. "HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO THEOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" He swaying his feet back and forth under the table, giggling madly. "How aaaaaaare you my best, best bud?"

Parents...? What'd that word mean, again..?
Atticus didn't particularly care what it meant, all he knew is that he wasn't getting the collar taken off. The croc boy let out an audible groan as he fell backwards, flopping down onto the ground and laying there motionless. All of this was so boring, so restricting. He couldn't do anything that he could back in his home, especially with these restraints. He yanked at his collar again before letting his arm flop back down onto the floor.
"Hungry..." He whimpered, looking back at Carmella again. He pulled at his collar. "Too small."
As one of the parents stepped down from the podium, Machi smiled. She'd been standing off to the side while the kids and adults gathered together, and decided now would be as good a time as ever to step up herself. Machi walked up to the top of the podium with her hands behind her back and a big smile on her face. "Hello, children~! I'm sure you're all acquainted with me by now~! I'm Machi, and I, too, am hoping to adopt one of you." The woman chimed before stepping away as to allow someone else to go.

Merle was still walking around a bit slowly, despite the week that had passed since... Since what, again? Something about their claws getting injured. The badger kid shone a smile at Lucy who was now calmer about things. Probably. Once they were off the stairs they predictably went towards a hawk boy. "Hey, Theo, budd---" Surprised, they stepped a bit away and checked shoulders with an unfamiliar seahorsey orphan. "Oh uh, hiya there! I'm an orphan here, did you get lost with all the parents coming in today?" (( C♡c♡ ChibiGissy cassiroll sorta and titee))

"Morni-" Ugh. Theo winced and buried his face in his arms, leaning on the table.
“Please not now, Earnest. I feel awful. Go stalk someone else for a change. Like the new kid. Y’know, someone who doesn’t hate your guts... or someone with guts you haven’t kicked into oblivion?”

Jove had busied himself with listening to the parents' introductions, taking particular interest in Machi's. If she also worked here, she would probably be his best gateway towards getting a change of clothes. Possiblely even a hair cut. The sea dragon lad always had a preference towards shorter hair though his parents- former parents now, treasured his long flowing locks. This could be his first step towards breaking free of them. Surprised, they stepped a bit away and checked shoulders with an unfamiliar seahorsey orphan. "Oh uh, hiya there! I'm an orphan here, did you get lost with all the parents coming in today?" Jove was so invested in paying attention in what Machi had to say, eyes locked onto her, that the contact came at a complete suprise. He stumbled back into the wall with a grunt before refocusing on the child that bumped shoulders with him. Did they think he came with the parents? It would make sense, seeing as how he came so late last night. Jove then realized his attempts at making himself unnoticed most likely had the opposite affect, as another group of kids seemed to be talking about him as well. "I'm not lost," he said, looking over at the rabbit and bird like child who mentioned him before return his gaze to the barefooted one that he was speaking to. "I'm new here. I just came in last night." Beads of sweat rolled down his face as he forced an uncomfortable smile. This was how you talked to other kids your age, right?

Carmella took to a small podium a staff member had scooted in, Keeping Atticus's leash taut. She put on her best smile for presentations sake. "Hello all, it's a pleasure to see your bright and shining faces this morning. I see a few new ones as well, welcome! It's that time of year again! We'll be having any prospective parents staying with us for the next two weeks to personally get to know as many of you as possible. So please! Be on your best behavior." She cleared her throat and waited tensely. The parents would be stepping in shortly. A week had passed relatively uneventfully after the events that occurred during the camping trip. The lives of several children were lost, and Gear was now living with who he presumed was the culprit behind at least two of the untimely deaths. It was difficult for him to accept Carmella's decision. He could make neither heads nor tails of her faulty reasoning for housing an apex predator in an orphanage full of prey. Gear didn't think he would ever come to accept the beast. Atticus was its - no, his - name. On the bright side, Gear gained a bit more control over his senses. He was still hesitant to call upon his horn even after his trauma wore off, but he was steadily making progress. Now, Gear sat with the other children. Their Keeper had run them through her expectations as for the next two weeks prospective parents would be staying in residence. He hated this time of year... he always tried his hardest to avoid the adults that visited to the best of his ability. He refused to be adopted. He only had ONE family that mattered, and he'd be damned if someone tried tried to replace them. Plus... Dad said he would come get me...
And there it was. The Crawford Orphanage. It wasn't impressive by any standards. The building showed signs of wear and tear, and the yard could use a lot of work. But he didn't come here to nitpick a home for the afflicted. He came to simply... observe. The abilities of the afflicted were outstanding; truly and undoubtedly a gift from the gods to mankind! Whether his observation would result in him fathering or older-brothering a child remained to be seen. Adoption wasn't his end goal, but he wasn't opposed to the thought. Yes, surely he could provide an excellent home for the right child... As he entered the orphanage, tens of heads swiveled his way, a few audible gasps escaping the mouths of the children. No matter. Let them watch. One of Crawford's maids had just stepped down from a quaint podium, likely after having introduced herself. He supposed he should do the same and casually walked his way to the podium. "Ahem...hello," he started, his distorted voice garnering the attention of even the handful of half-asleep kids. "It is a pleasure to meet each and every one of you." he said tersely. He lightly chuckled as he initially received little to no response, as if he already knew the reason why. "Oh, pardon me. I am wearing this mask for your protection. And mine as well, of course. My name is... well, please, call me Wolftrap." Name: --- Nickname: Wolftrap Age: 26 Height: 6'1 Pronouns: He/him Other Info: Wolftrap was once crossed with a wolftrap anglerfish. He retained his bioluminescence and hypnosis abilities in addition to being able to withstand deep-sea conditions. He is very sensitive to light and wears a mask to both diminish any light that shines his way and block most of his own light from affecting other people too much. Like most bioluminescent predators, he is incapable of seeing the light he emits.

Name: Iksel Solari Nickname: ~ Age: 31 Height: 6'0" Pronouns: He/him/his Other Info: Iksel was raised in another orphanage for afflicted children, his past species being a thresher shark. He was left with the ability to breath underwater and enhanced swimming as well as electreception and enhanced thermoregularization. Iksel was never adopted, and to this day has trouble melding seamlessly with society. The orphanage he stayed at managed to find him a job working at a pier, though he still struggles to socialize with nonafflicted and maintain a normal life. Iksel entered Crawford, taking in it's appearance with a bit of curiosity. It was similar to where he grew up, shabby and small by all means, they probably hadn't a lot. He never had much either. The process of adoption always struck him as odd, respective parents practically came in and picked out kids like they were grocery shopping for them. While Iksel told himself he would be the one exception, a nagging voice in the back of his head kept telling him he was just like everyone else. He was just another grocery shopper.
Iksel made his way to the podium, waiting for the peculiarly masked man to step off before taking his place. He firmly gripped both sides and spoke out into the crowd; "Hey. It's nice to meet cha, name's Iksel. I work on a beach, and I'm pretty big into stuff like that. I guess if you are to we could get to know each other?" Iksel scratched the back of his head, unsure of how to introduce himself. He made his way off the podium so somebody else could take the spotlight away from him.

A smallish man stepped briskly up to the podium. Clearing his throat he began to speak.
"U-uhm, hallo. I suppose I'm next, hmm. My name is Edel Croft, I own a bakery downtown. I hope to call one or two of you my children soon." He looked a bit bashful about his heavy accent, and hid his face with a low bow before stepping to the side. The man instantly felt overdressed as he glanced at the other parental candidates.

Name: Edel Croft
Nickname/s: Crumpet Man Edel, Mr Croft
Age: 34
Height: 5'6"
Pronouns: he/him/(they is also fine)
Other Information: Edel smells vaguely like walnuts and apricot jam. He's strongly agnostic but keeps this to himself.
Description (image optional *ORIGINAL ART ONLY): Edel wears a heavy tweed coat and a newly-pressed set of dress-shirt and pantaloons. He has a bit of a(n almost twirlable) moustache, a darker olive complexion and hair the colour of burnt umber. (For now it's been neatly parted to give him an air of professionalism!) His eyes are dull yellow. Edel used to have timber wolf affliction, and has retained tracking abilities and high movement speed.

Carmella ignored Atticus for now, focusing on the parents that had come in. She was unpleasantly surprised when Machi took to the podium, whispering to the woman as she stepped back, "The mistress won't be happy with you," But wasn't able to say more as surprisingly more parents game in. One, two, three, four...five. Not bad. Last year had been twelve, however. They'd had difficulty housing all of them and feeding them for their stay. It was unfortunate to have such a lower outcome with so many more orphans packed together.
More camping trips would likely be in order.
Once all the parents stepped down, Carmella took to the stage again, a tight smile on her face. "Now then, we're going to be playing a fun game on the front lawn! Do I have any outdoor suggestions?"
"Soccer!" Earnest suggested excitedly, but a quick frown from Carmella had his perky bunny butt somber in an instant.
"Dodge ball?" Another orphan suggested after an awkward moment of silence. Carmella took much better to this.
"What a splendid idea! Machi, go get the cloth balls from the storage room. Everyone! Let's head outside."
After towing the children out, Carmella put her hands on her hips as she started to explain the rules. "We're using cloth balls for safeties sake! They're just bundles of old fabric tied together; completely harmless. For the first round we'll have all the new additions on one side!" She pointed left, "And our lovely parents and staff members on the other! Do not cross THIS LINE," She started to draw a line in the ground with her foot across the field, "and do not aim for the head or...um....crotch! For the comfort of everyone. If you're hit, your out! If you catch a ball, one of your team members can come back in!" She raised an eyebrow at everyone. "Any questions before we begin?"

"Yes ma'am" Machi smiled as she walked off and retrieved the cloth balls as Carmella had requested. She lined the balls along the line that Carmella had drawn and stood silently on the same side as the other parents, her smile still glued to her face. She nodded along as the instructions were given and waited to see if any of the others had questions as to how this game was played.
Atticus sat on the ground, completely unaware of what was going on. He was suddenly lined up with the other children with several strangers staring back at them. He picked up a couple of words that Carmella had said, but couldn't piece together any coherent meaning behind the sentences that spewed forth. What is she talking about....? Atticus looked on either side of him at the other children, before frowning and simply laying down on the floor.
