"I stink?" The mole woman seemed more than a little distraught. "Why, I'm sure you don't smell too good yourself!" She went towards the other with the intent to push them up against the wall with her powerful hands. Although she'd lost her claws long ago, the strength in her palms and arms was as fierce as ever. If she managed to pin the girl down, it was unlikely she'd be able to spring free. Hattie was right, Sylvie didn't smell great. Fortunately for Sylvie, this didn't stop her from her energetic state. Sylvie was able to sense the smell going towards her and could just barely move around the old woman. "I always wanted to talk to that old dog. You said you have children yeah? Do you eat your own kid too?" Her confidence howled despite the major disadvantages she faced. Sylvie was currently unaware of how much energy she was using.

"You seem ta be in a pickle! Either brave or stupid, I tell ya! I admire it hehehehe!!!" He threw himself in a fit of laughter yet again and stared at the lady holding the young girl down. "Oi, how many kids have you eaten?" he declared his question, holding back a soft laugh. He seems to be having the time of his life watching the events unfold in front of him. "Plenty!" The woman boasted, "and you'll be next, so scurry yer little tooshy back inside before you become another one of me victims!" "Of course I have children! I'm a Keeper!" Hattie screeched, keeping her attention focused carefully on Sylvia as she fell on all fours, her hands scraping up the freshly disturbed dirt beneath her abnormally strong fingernails. She was annoyed her first attack hadn't pinned down the child. "Yah should be grateful yer not one of um! Oh, I'd give yah a good whipping! I'd scratch up yer eyes and cut out yer pretty tongue with it's sharp insults!" She made another move forward to hitting the sides of the walls with her hands to shake loose the dirt to distract the girl with the falling debris. otakrap

Machi ventured outside, stepping quietly through the grass as the commotion between Sylvia, Lou and Hattie increased. This wouldn't do. Children should be sleeping at this hour, not bothering the help. Upon spotting the hyena boy, she smiled deviously as she made her way towards him. The boy had been busy hollering and hooting over Hattie's little display in dealing with the other brat.
Machi knelt down behind Lou and whispered into his ear, her tone carrying a strange levity to it. "Children shouldn't be out this late, sweetheart~! You might catch a cold." Her fingers began making their way towards Lou's neck, hoping to administer a shock that would knock the child out.

He turned to the keeper with a shit-eating grin planted on his face and pointed at Hattie in her distraught state, "I think we caught somethin' a lil' worse than a cold-" before he could erupt in laughter, his smile disappeared and his eyes widened. Quickly, the expression calmed as he slumped over and leaned into the grass. He wasn't conscious.

Earnest giggled happily as the girl he'd wanted to greet earlier found her way into their room. He was up on his bed in a flash, standing and waving his a single hand energetically as he continued to chomp on his lettuce while he spoke. "Bird lady, bird lady!" He cheered, bits of green falling from his mouth. Octavia cringed audibly at the sight followed by an eye roll. "Bird lady? Why, if you insist on talking to me, then you will address me by my proper name, or at the very least lady or miss." She pressed her skirt free of wrinkles and then gave an impressive fluff of her ruff, holding herself high in stature, "My name is Octavia. A beautiful name for a beautiful lady." Octavia's eyes than scanned several of the beds, her nose wrinkling with discontent at their messy state. She finally found one cleaner than the others and sat down on it. it was much more uncomfortable than she was used to, that at this point she wasn't surprised. Just another reason why she needed to leave this horrid place as soon as possible. "Do we have closets, at least? I've clothes that need to be properly hung."

Her smile spread wide across her face as Lou fell unconscious, watching as the boy fell over into the grass as a small giggle escaped her lips. "Ooooh, such a rambunctious one~! How adorable!" She cooed as she lifted the child into her arms and stood back up. Before she went inside, however, she leaned forward to peer down into the depths of the pitfall where Hattie and Sylvia were still bickering.
"Oooooh Hattiiiiiiiie~!" Machi sang, her smile still plastered across her face. "Do you need any help with that child down there? I'd be glad to take the darling off your hands~!" She chimed, her words flowing out like velvet.

Earnest skidded into the room with a bowl of lettuce in hand, grinning widely that he got to eat two dinners (one with the rest of the orphans and one with the new ones). He ran over to his bed and hopped into place, scooping the plane lettuce into his mouth as though it were sweets. Gear was just finishing up his last sandwich when the rabbit boy who greeted then earlier excitedly entered the room, quickly hopping into the bed right next to Gear. Rabbit crossbreds were the more common kind of mutations that Gear had seen. There were three at his old orphanage, though they were all different breeds. Earnest was the most energetic of all of them. Gear wondered how long one would need to be in an orphanage to be so... happy. Gear slightly chuckled at the irony of him smacking on plain lettuce and figured he would talk to him. After all, they'd be sleeping next to each other for however long they'd remain in Crawford's. "H-hi. My name's Gea-" he began, hoping to introduce himself to Earnest when suddenly the bunny boy's attention was drawn elsewhere. Earnest's sudden movement surprised Gear, causing him to choke a little on the last bit of sandwich he had left. Gear beat his chest with his fist as he regained composure and looked over his shoulder at Octavia. Now that Gear had gotten a closer look at Octavia, she seemed much younger than he thought. If you'd asked him what he thought her age was earlier, he would've said likely stated a number above 20, despite the fact that no adult retains their animal characteristics. Still, Octavia had to be at least 17. He'd be sure to sure to save that question for later as a potential topic of conversation with the self proclaimed beautiful lady. Soon after her entrance, she walked to her bed which, thankfully, wasn't next to him. He turned back towards Earnest. "Um. Hi! My name's Gear. What's yours?"

" Oooooh Hattiiiiiiiie~!" Machi sang, her smile still plastered across her face. "Do you need any help with that child down there? I'd be glad to take the darling off your hands~!" She chimed, her words flowing out like velvet. "I am FINE!" Hattie screeched, managing to grasp Sylvia by the arm at the last moment. She tugged the girl up out of the hole, rage clear on her face before wiping away some of the mud and filth that had gathered around her goggles from the digging. "'N I would ah got that one too!" She hissed, tempted to snatch the other child from Machi, but keeping her grip tight on the snake girl instead. "Keep to yer post next time, maid. Leave me and the other Keepers to do our jobs!" The woman then scampered back inside, Sylvia in tow. She'd made sure to give the girl a good lash to her backside before sending her up to bed for the night. "Whether yer my kid 'er not, I will not tolerate this insubordination!"
Earnest didn't seem bothered at all by this. Nothing really seemed to get to him, despite some of the children's stand off-ish behavior. "Silly!" He chortled before picking up on the end of her sentence. "Yes! We have the storage space under our beds, and assigned cupboards in the closet across the hallway!" It was now that Earnest took to Gear, who had chosen the bed beside him. He seemed surprised when he noticed the new face, a glimmer of confusion in his eye. "Oh! Sorry, I didn't even see you there! That was old pal Doris's bed not more than a few days ago. I was so used to someone being there!" He let out a small giggle. "I'm Earnest! I was one of the welcoming committee members! I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to get to know each other now! Being so close!" He set his unfinished lettuce down, looking to have no intent to finish it anytime soon as he turned to face his new friend. "I guess you'll be my new Doris!" He said cheerily. ...

The next morning, Carmella took all of the children and packed them into a carriage like before, except this one had no windows. They made no stops and traveled for what seemed like hours. She told them nothing about where they were going, her mood seeming soured still from whatever had happened the previous evening in the basement. Soon, they all arrived just outside of a forest. Here Carmella gave each child and staff member items to carry. It was too rough for the carriage to continue. They walked in the woods for another hour before coming across a clearing with a beautiful lake a plenty of cabins. Carmella said they would be staying in one, however, since there weren't enough staff to divide for decent watch shifts over multiple cabins. She told them all they would be camping here for the evening as a welcoming vacation away, where they could get to know each other and have some fun before work at the orphanage began.
Objective:
It is currently noon and your child is hungry. Carmella has given you equipment for fishing and hunting, as well as books documenting the plants in the area. You have been told to find your own food, since many times hunting during the colder months is a necessary skill, and she wishes to observe who here might have those skills to be trusted to go on hunting trips.

Machi simply continued to grin and the clearly agitated woman as she stomped into the orphanage. "My mistake, madam~! I will try to know my place next time around. I wouldn't want to diminish your role as a keeper~!" She chimed as she followed close behind. As they entered the building, the corners of Machi's smile began to twitch slightly as the filthy keeper dragged her muddied feet across the carpet the maid had just cleaned for this special occasion. Hold your tongue, Machi... There are more important matters to attend to...She walked up to the third floor and laid Lou down in one of the open beds, brushing the boy's hair out of his face before pulling a blanket over his body. She couldn't help but giggle at the sight of this rambunctious child in such a calm state. She did not linger long, however, as she had work to attend to, thanks to the disgusting Hattie.
Archie scuttled out of the cart as quickly as possible to make room for everyone else's exit. He listened anxiously at the activities that Carmella had planned for the group to participate in, causing the boy to shudder. Hunting for food? Why? He couldn't help but frown at the designated job for the day, but knew he would be required to participate. Especially with the upset stomach he'd had after being to anxious to eat last night. Once the children were dismissed, Archie hesitantly began crawling towards the woods in an attempt to search for food. Maybe if he was lucky he'd be able to find non-poisonous berries. Wait, could I even get poisoned? Archie didn't linger long on this question, as it was not a risk he was willing to take. -------------- Machi stepped out of the carriage, stretching her limbs and letting out a relieved sigh as the sunlight warmed her skin. Being stuck in that dark, grungy cart was not something the maid was particularly fond of. But, when given a chance to spend even more time with the children, how could she resist? As the group arrived at their campsite, Machi stood near Carmella, grinning as the woman spoke in her cold, detached tone. Once the kids were off, Machi approached the mistress with a bow. "Excuse me, madam, but will you and I be joining in this hunt as well~?" She inquired. "Or do we have other matters with which to attend to?"

As the musty carriage fouled with odors of each animal and debree from old clothes halted to a stop, the kids began to squeeze their way out, like emptying a sardine can. The kids pouring out lightly pushed against a sleeping Lou, who groggily phased out of slumber. Long car rides are his weakness. If he can't get a window seat, he can't help but to go out like a light. His wake-up face was parallel to his usual. His hair was lightly matted to his forehead from bedhead (not much difference there), his eyes were drowsy, and his mug was shriveled in a sleep-deprived frown. Surely, it won't last long. He waited until people were able to leave the room so he could have room to stretch and calibrate himself for the day, "Here already??"

Theo barely slept a wink the previous night. He saw it. He saw the orphanage staff members use force on two other kids. Was this the norm? He saw afflicted kids get bullied before but… this was different.
The carriage ride was rather unsettling. In the back of his mind Theo wondered if they were being sent to a slaughter house. But no, it turned out to be the middle of nowhere. A campsite? Theo had only ever read about this kind of thing in books.
After being given his hunting equipment, Theo groaned and took in his surroundings. There was probably a good chance he could get some fish from the lake. But he had more pressing matters on his mind.
Theo tried to act natural as he looked around for any sign of the hyena boy or the snake girl.

Once the kids were off, Machi approached the mistress with a bow. "Excuse me, madam, but will you and I be joining in this hunt as well~?" She inquired. "Or do we have other matters with which to attend to?" "You can if you like," Carmella said, her shoulders easing a bit as she watched the children begin to separate and look around for new acquaintances. "I'll be watching from above in case anyone needs help. Perhaps you can escort those who don't know what to do to the lake for some fishing? That's a much more relaxing chore for the skittish ones." As she ended her sentence, she began to slowly rise from the ground, her hair rustling a bit as some unknown force began pulling her into the sky. It was bizarre to see someone who used to have wings use their flight ability; almost like watching witchcraft being performed. "If you need me I'll be around."
Earnest excitedly ran out of the carriage, having been chattering with anyone who would listen about how great the camping trips were. He'd been on dozens now, each more exciting than the last, with one tale of another of odd sounds from the forest at night or even children going missing in the woods! He surely had spooked one or two kids, even though his goal was more to show his fascination than to be cruel. Picking up his choice in weapon---a spear---he headed over to the group of children that had gathered where Carmella had spoken. He searched for a face he'd yet to speak to, eyes locking in on a child with wings. "Hiya!!!!" He yelped, bouncing over to Theo with a grin already in place. "What cha looking for?" He asked, noticing the boy's eyes wander around the group.

Vulpe slept rather unwell that night- too scared and confused to let the others out, even Gray who was meant to keep others safe. Why weren't they at home, there was no mention of a sleep-over, nor did their mother mention anything about them going anywhere. She wasn't aware of how much she had missed since the last time she was out, but she just wanted answers- she just wanted to go home.
Waking up in the morning was an unwelcome sight. Still they were surrounded by so many strangers, still they were not home. It was assuredly real. Vulpe crawled into the dress they had brought, not even bothering to change into their sleepwear the previous night. She was scared of where they would be going but at this point she couldn't help but block the others out. They were loaded into a dark carriage- her and a group of strange children. The entire way to their destination she sat in a tight ball.
Now let free she walked out to another new location. Reluctantly taking the supplies she had been handed for the walk there she followed the group silently, her eyes fixed on their feet.
Once the kids were all let off to their own devices, Vulpe watched some of the others. They picked up sharp objects and treated it all like it was no big deal, while she stood with her hands behind her back. No matter what, she was told by Bru to avoid dangerous things and let one of the older ones handle them, but at the moment she was simply unyielding of her spot in the front.

Archie trekked into the more wooded areas of the campsite, taking a small pomology book along side him in order to properly identify edible fruits that he may come upon. Plus, this would give him a chance to escape the anxiety of trying to interact with any of the other children he'd be spending the trip with. He hadn't worked up the courage yet. Everything was so much simpler back at his old orphanage. All the kids there had grown up together, they'd known each other, they were practically family! So why was he the one to get booted out and sent to this new establishment? These thoughts burdened the spider boy's mind as his feet continued skittering across the cold grass, so much so that he hadn't paid any attention to where he'd been going or in what direction camp had been. He finally stopped after walking for what felt like an eternity, tears welling up in his eyes. "It's not fair..." He whimpered to himself, brushing the tears away with his shirt sleeve. "I just wanna go home.."
Machi bowed to Carmella as the Keeper took to the sky. "As you wish, madam~! I will do my best." She chimed. She turned towards the group of children who already began to disperse, trying to get a read on what their thoughts of this situation were. She could already guess some would be having a much more difficult time than others with this sort of transition, especially after having just transferred into a new orphanage just last night. Never the less, she decided to busy herself and scampered over to the boy she knew the best after overhearing that one of the new children, Theo, was trying to search for something. She stood behind Earnest, smiling eagerly at the bouncy child and patting him on the head. "Excited, are we~? Pardon my interruption, but I couldn't help but overhear that you were searching for something? Might I be of some assistance, sweetheart~?" She spoke in a soothing tone, smiling warmly at the boy as she waited for his response. {Spoiler - Machis outfit}

"I just wanna go home.." Carmella wasn't in the sky for very long before noticing a child through the thinning trees. It struck her as worrisome that one had already gotten lost, and even more concerning that he had decided to leave without a weapon to defend himself or a friend in case he was injured while out in the woods. She descended quickly near the child, doing her best to not startle him. "What is the matter." She spoke calmly, but her eyebrows neared each other in clear anxiety. She noticed the book in his hand and leaned down to one knee, ignoring the fact that the grass here was moist and she likely would stain her dress so early on the trip. "I see you chose a book." She pointed to it. "You didn't wish to hunt with the others...?"
