I know some years back a lot of people I knew (myself included) were looking into doing their own Visual Novel. For some, it was because it could replace the hours put into animation into something more text based, thus putting their story out their faster. For others it was solely because they had an idea for a Visual Novel and with the information and programs they had, they could achieve it.
So my question is, what is your opinion on Visual Novels. Both in general, and made to replace animated projects.
In my personal opinion, while it will reduce the amount of time spent on animating episodes, it will still take a lot of time to type out everything, make every single sprite, add in special cut scene images, do the backgrounds, sound effects, coding, etc... Either way, it's all a lot of work.

LEMME TELL YOU A THING ABOUT WORK //shot Yeah I agree, it's always a lot of work, but it feels a lot more rewarding to me than animating. Once I have the sprites and art assets done, I can more or less reuse them throughout the entire game. While animating requires drawing new frames constantly for only several seconds of art on screen, the art in a Visual Novel you know the player is probably going to be staring at for at least a good couple minutes while they're reading.
Art wise, it's a lot easier, but still requires a lot of work if you're going all the way with CGs and scenary porn and all that.
The text for me is usually the easiest part. Coding becomes repetitive once you know what you're doing, and inputting sound is... whatever.
As for my opinion on Visual Novels that I've actually PLAYED... With all media, there's a lot of good ones and bad ones. I usually get bored within the first couple minutes because the main character has way too many internal monologues. I like the possibility of alternate endings and finding more about different characters through interaction and choices, so yeah. Format wise, I enjoy it. It's just hard to find one with a fun story that isn't just bang bang hentai.

I really like Visual Novels! I love that I can change the outcome of the stories. Sometimes I think, "oh the main character should have gone after x guy instead" and now because of VNs I can choose the route of the guy I like best (but I always end up playing them all anyway). I want to make a VN or a fanime but it's hard and I have no confidence. So I'm here to make friends and chat about this stuff and maybe get tips. There are a couple VNs out that I want to buy really badly but I'm so broke atm. OTL
