Maybe there are a few of us in here who are interested in monetizing our YouTube videos. If you're not, then this is something that can be overlooked. If you create your own music, then good for you because you're extremely talented and I'm jealous. But for those of us who can't, I have a few other options. But my recent tumblr post goes into a little discussion about how I decided to monetize my videos. I'm not going to make very much, but I just think it's cool to say that I can. Obviously, that means I cannot post videos with copyrighted music/visuals for monetization. I can still post them, they just won't be able to make money. Which means the videos I have now won't make any money (Save for a handful). This got me thinking about my movie project. I have already completed all of the audio and it does use some copyrighted music. Now, I believe that since I would have voices over top, it would not be caught by the YouTube Content ID system, BUT, there are definitely some consecutive spots with music that would not pass the system. So I had to rethink plans. If you're interested in using Creative Commons License Music, here are some resources you can use: www.youtube.com/user/MusicForMonetize/videoswww.youtube.com/user/MMMontageMusicvimeo.com/musicstore (Not all of the music is free, you have to make sure it says "Free - Creative Commons" next to the download button.) www.freesound.org/ (This also has free sound effects. Quality varies) incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/freeplaymusic.com/ (Upon further research, I found that this IS NOT free for use on YouTube videos.) There's a wide variety of music genres you can choose from. Sometimes there's just this song from a movie soundtrack that is so fitting, but if you want to monetize, then you probably can't use it. I hope this is helpful to you. Also, if you want more information about the Content ID system, then check out this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuTHhtCyzLgThis also explains things for game/movie reviewers.

Ah, thank you very much Pilot! This is very helpful for people who do monetize videos, myself included. I also have one more link to share with everyone, if interested. ccmixter.org/ Is a pretty great website to show off tracks that are both free to use, and not. I've found quite a few and I really like the site. However, just going through that part of the site is hard to find the free to use commercially tracks. Luckily they have another section to their site: dig.ccmixter.org/free_musicGoing through here, you can search through their library of music and see what's free to use commercially. HOWEVER, if you do use it in videos on youtube, make sure to post links to the artist's CCmixter page, the CC page and prepare yourself in case YouTube's system decides they don't believe you. It's really annoying sometimes, but if that happens, just join CCmixter, and send an email to the artist, link them to your video and ask them to give you written permission to use the song commercially. Take a screenshot of the email, send it to Youtube, problem solved.

Thanks Pilot and Kisaka!! I also recommend Newgrounds's audio portal, however like with ccmixter, it's difficult to find commercially free-to-use music. Everything there is generally safe for non-commercial use unless it says otherwise, but the Commercial Creative Commons rights are a bit more tricky. I'm sure it's a lot easier though to ask a small-time content creator on Newgrounds for permission though than a big-time company C: I've been interested in monetizing but I was going to do that by having a completely original OST composed for me once I had the money to pay the composer and posting it on a separate partnered channel (Butch's VA for Terra Lucis is actually a professional composer ;u; ), but now with Youtube's new Content ID system it's almost scaring me into making everything completely safe just to be sure that nothing gets flagged, especially since a lot of my older videos that aren't even monetized now have a new, shiny content id-match flag on them == I'll definitely be checking out the links in this thread/tumblr post!

Luckily, most Content ID matches aren't too threatening, unless they want to file a claim. I have a couple of videos that have third party content, but they aren't blocked and it's perfectly fine except that I can't monetize them. If you do, for some reason, get a strike on your account, there's nothing to fear. If you want to dispute the claim and file an appeal, you can. (It's explained better in the video I linked.) The strikes go away after 6 months so as long as you don't have three strikes in a six month period, they can't take down your account. Though if you get three strikes all at once, you're pretty much screwed. That happened to MisdermeanerJ. She lost everything she had done at that point... so she pretty much gave up animating. It's cool that you want to get an original OST composed, arenia. I wish I had the money to do that. I wonder how expensive it is. I hate the YouTube changes and their strict copyright rules, but at least there are ways to know you'll be safe from their restrictions.

Hmm okay well that's good news at least ;; I always got very nervous over those little notifications, glad to know they aren't too threatening C: I'll have to watch that video, I've watched a few Let's Players talking about the new system and how it affects them but my knowledge about it as a whole is still very limited. It's making me so sad for them though, a few of the ones I love are career Let's Players, and other ones donate all of their money that they earn from Youtube to charity. Now the career ones will be really put in a tight spot, and the charity ones can't donate nearly as much money anymore. Ugh I remember that happening, that's so frustrating ;; It's really unfortunate that she gave up animating but I completely understand, for everything to just disappear like that... I wish I had the money too haha! I don't know how much it would be, but I definitely feel like I'd need to be armed with at least several hundred dollars. That's why I was initially going to save for it or tack it onto a Kickstarter that I was planning for next year, but now I feel like that'd be the safest thing for monetization ffff. I'm so jealous of the people that can compose beautifully ;0; Yeah, it's good that at least we can know enough to stay safe from them ;u; That's the most important thing for now I think.
