There has been a lot of discussion about having a meetup so I've started a poll to see which meetup possibility is most preferred. I've put summaries to what I think of each possibility. Personally, I'm leaning towards meeting in DC or Pennsylvania.
- Otakon - As it says on their website "July 24-26, 2015 in Baltimore." Otakon was $80 last year and probably would be this year. Chances are that booking a hotel would be much more difficult than a lot of other cons out there. I am quite certain that even if we could book a hotel, it would cost way too much anyways. We have two cars so its possible we could drive from our house to the convention center. The meeting area would then either be at the convention or somewhere in DC most likely. Depending how many people want to attend Otakon, this could be arranged. However, one thing that I really don't want is spending $80 on the con and not even attending it.
- Genericon - "Genericon XXVIII will be held the weekend of March 13-15, 2015" This seems way too soon and too far East as far as I see it. It seems less convenient to me with location and time.
- Matsuricon - "Hyatt Regency Columbus – Columbus, OH" probably sometime in August. It happens to be located around Ohio, and August should be during the summer for most people. This trip almost looks like planning another Ohayocon trip, just with a different con.
- DC - Anytime, no hotel charge, party at Jay's house. The idea I had in mind while posting in the other thread: Have a meetup at DC (The Washington Memorial to be specific because it is a really easy landmark to spot) and take the metro to our house and do whatever. Since we didn't do very much at the con at the Ohayocon meetup, I think its not such a bad idea to meetup without having to pay for a con... right? As far as staying the night, this is the cheapest alternative, but the location might not be the most convenient for everyone.
- Hotel in Pennsylvania - Booking some hotel in Pennsylvania. Why? Its in-between where a lot of fanimators live. With this approach we would have the least amount of people having to take flights making this trip potentially the cheapest for everyone depending on how much the hotel would cost. This could also be set on any day.
- Knightrealms - "A LARP for the New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania Tri-State Area" A cheap alternative which provides live action role play. It has occasional events, and is kinda East.
- ConnectiCon - "PRE-REGISTER FOR CONNECTICON 2015 ALL-WEEKEND MEMBERSHIP FOR $60 ON OR BEFORE APRIL 4, 2015." Somewhat soon, but it just looks way too far East to me.
- Mitsuwa - Looking at their website, Mitsuwa seems to be a very Japanese themed area. Not much to say here I suppose, just a public location that would need a set time.
- New York City - Mitsuwa is right next to New York City right? Why did I even add this?
- Iowa State Fair - August 13-23. It has a nice duration being ten days, but this is incredibly far west. Most people would have to fly I believe.
