Show, Don't Tell

So I came up with a fun little idea for a forum game that may help people who want to become better writers. You know the saying "show, don't tell"? Well it doesn't matter whether or not this rule is bullcrap, it's just a fun exercise to take simple sentences and turn them into something that actually demonstrates how a person feels about something.

So the aim of this game is to read the simple sentence above you and expand on it to actually show what is happening. And then, for the next person involved, you can give them a simple sentence for them to expand on.

For example:

Telling: "Shannon started to feel cold at night as she waited for her friend."

Showing: "Minutes after the sun set, the chill of the dark night set in, and Shannon chattered her teeth. Her sweater was not enough to stave off the biting cold, but she had to wait until her friend would congregate at the meeting spot they had set up. As a measure of defense, she wrapped her arms around her chest and snaked her hands under her armpits which had generated enough warmth to stop them from turning blue."

You can go on for as long or as short as you like, just as long as it is clear you have expanded on the original sentence.

Also, you can even include your characters as subjects of the sentence if you wish!

Here's your starting sentence.

"Janice felt sad because her cat died."
