Creative Studio Member: Missy R.
- Q: What is your name or another name you go by?
I go by Missy or Missy R. What the R stands for, anyone who knew me before 2012 probably knows. (I also have it on other sites so you can probably see it there.) I also use the name LiteralNovice on my Tumblr and DeviantART and a scattering of other sites. - Q: What kind of creative work do you do?
I animate most of my projects, but I also do writing. I've participated in NaNoWriMo and written two stories already. The two stories I've written are The Magical Girlfriend Complex and Times On The Townside. I also do some voice acting, and even acting in local productions. - Q: Where can we find your work?
You can find Tokyo Fetish Mew, my fanime, on YouTube. I have not publicly released either of my NaNoWriMo novels, but information on them can be found on my NaNoWriMo page. I could consider releasing the manuscripts but at the same time I'm not really sure what audience they would have.- Q: What's your favorite creative project so far?
It's gonna sound weird, but Tokyo Fetish Mew has reached its position as the creative project I've held to my heart. This wasn't because of quality at all, even though I did want to do more than the average troll fanime. I think the reason why I like it so much was because it's an actually finished project. Sure, I finished it with minimal effort, but the work ethic I put into it kind of inspired myself to do better.
- Q: Do you have a technique you favor in any of your works?
I don't really consider myself having any sort of technique, but I do notice that whenever I animate things, I tend to save a sequence in one SAI or PSD file and just use folders and layers to separate them into frames. I find it easier. When it comes to general creativity, such as writing and animating, I tend to play music or YouTube videos that aren't dependent on me actually watching the video and are more audio based just so I'm suitably entertained. The latter isn't useful when I'm writing, but drawing I do find it entertaining to watch videos while working.
I also tend to plan out future deadlines in my head and suitably divide my work over days. This does mean I have to work every day to reach my goal, but if I go over, I have a buffer for the next day, which helps. I can also figure out what days I have work or something else and then I can work around it.
- Q: What can we expect from you in the future?
Well I have a novel in planning for this year's NaNoWriMo, so hopefully I'll get a chance to write it. I'm also planning Doki Doki Dick Squad, which is that rap battle fanime I've been planning. It definitely won't be as frequently made as Tokyo Fetish Mew, but I do hope to get episode 1 out, if not this year, then early next year.
- Q: Anything you'd like to say in closing?
Just thought I'd say this for anyone who wants to do any creative projects.
If you're going to do this just for yourself, and you don't need to do it for a job, you come first. Your health, your commitments, your desire or drive. Yes, having a work ethic and deadlines will ensure that you will get your projects done, but don't push yourself to work. You will lose interest. If you don't feel up to working on your project because of your health, be it physical or mental, take a break. Don't work yourself sick. Don't make things if they suck up your drive.
You're making it because you want to. Not to meet some requisite. Just have fun, and if it's not fun, stop.
Thanks so much Missy! You can also find her art and other stuff at the links below so check her out! Twitter Tumblr DeviantART [/div]
