The boy winced as the woman's hand came towards him, but was pleasantly surprised to receive a pat on the head. A small grin spread across his face as he stared down at the ground. "Th-thank you ma'am..." He replied before kneeling down to help pick the small flowers in question. Once he had two small handfuls of the flora, he lifted the book into his arms and held it close to his chest.
As Archie glanced around the area, he tried to pinpoint which direction he'd come from. "U-uhm... Where's camp, miss?" He asked, hesitantly. "I wanna put the c-chamomile back there before getting more plants.."
Machi's ears perked up at the sound of a little girl seemingly trying to fight another one of the children. She quickly turned to locate the children when she spotted the culprit with the little lyrebird whom she'd just got acquainted with. She opted to stay where she was, watching the two in mild amusement. No reason to step in unless absolutely necessary, after all. She peaked back up at the sky and took notice of Carmella's absence still, her smile quickly spreading across her face.

“Wha-?” Theo raised an eyebrow, “No!” He quickly looked around to make sure no one was paying them any attention. “I have questions. Questions those grown-ups can’t hear about.” Theo looked back to Sylvie, almost glaring. “It's about.... breaking curfew?" He wasn't good at speaking in code. ( otakrap )

Merle in their daze couldn't tell what kind of look was on this new guy's face at all. Was it guilt or relief or surprise or anger or... The badger's gaze flicked over at the hand that was not being offered. It was dripping a weird, bright colour, kind of gluggy...!
They quivered and tried to get back up on their feet. Tripped their claws on the undergrowth and felt gravity acting again.
Merle instinctively reached for the other kid's hand, and held in a breath. Their two feet were now stabilised. Good. Exhale... "U-um, y-yes...!" Merle almost yelled, eyes still very wide and tail quite fluffed up.
Taking a better look now. Shortish light hair and steel eyes on this guy. May as well have been Merle's own family.
"Y-you, er, kinda look like me! Who are you?" The kid blinked quickly.

As Archie glanced around the area, he tried to pinpoint which direction he'd come from. "U-uhm... Where's camp, miss?" He asked, hesitantly. "I wanna put the c-chamomile back there before getting more plants.." "Of course, this way," Straightening her back, Carmella started to lightly lift off the ground. She was a foot or two above before suddenly seeming to remember that Archie wasn't an animal where flight was a possibility. Her feet rested on the ground once more. "Apologies," She mumbled, a bit embarrassed with such a silly mistake. She started to walk forward, keeping her eye on Archie to make sure he was keeping pace with her. They reached the cabins a few minutes later. She took note of the children still present, frowning that they hadn't taken off with the rest. "I should...check in with other children." She said to the spider child. She felt a twinge of guilt at leaving him, but her duty was to everyone, not just the skittish boy. "It will be at least another hour before enough is collected for everyone to have a proper meal. There are some wild hogs in the area I might try to locate for a quicker feast." She nodded to the boy, her stern expression back in place. "I'll be in the skies if needed. Try to keep track of your location---I suggest marking trees to help." With that, she flew back above the trees to assess how the others were doing.

Archie quietly followed Carmella back to the campsite, taking note of plants around him that he planned to go back for later. Once they'd arrived, Archie glanced around at the group of individuals still present and frowned. A few of them seemed to like each other already, and perhaps others were already friends. The boy cursed his skittish attitude as he listened to Carmella tell him where she was going, to which he nodded. Though, his mind latched on to something she said.
Wild hogs...? Oh....
The boy shivered slightly at the thought of running into one of those beasts out in the middle of the wilderness. He opted to walk to the center of camp where the supplies remained and picked up a small survival knife. Why the adults trusted these children with weapons such as these was beyond him. He placed his chamomile on a small wooden bench nearby and weighed it down with a rock he found before heading back into the woods, book clutched to his chest and knife in hand.

Lou has been traveling into the woods with nothing brought with him. He has fought with wild animals many times, and has seen no difference with the encounters he may face. He was still close enough by to the camp to hear the ramblings of other children. He spat out a short "hm" in a humorous tone as he looked around him. Surely, the woods were going to be a much more entertaining scene for him! His ear twitched lightly, cocking his head up to the sky to see the mistress floating above him. He chuckles and continues on his way. After a bit of traveling and the voices of kids growing faint, he hears a rustling in the woods. What could it be?

Gear took hold of the badger kid's hand and yanked upwards, stabilizing the fellow. He had to say... they looked just as shook by their collision than he had. Gear knelt back down slightly, retrieving his knapsack off of the ground and smacking away the debris that had gotten on it before slinging it back onto his person. "That's good- Wait... what?" Gear was a bit baffled by the badger kid. They look alike? I look nothing like them! Well... perhaps they did have similar features. But as far as animal characteristics, Gear didn't have a tail, or furry ears, or... or... or badger feet. He was a unicorn! Though he had to admit that without a visible horn, his species was kind of ambiguous. He supposed he should be grateful for that. "Ehehe, um... what do you mean? We look alike? Ah, My name is Gear by the way. What about you?" he asked, lightly tugging on a strand of his hair.

Carmella swooped down a moment later, finding another lone wolf in this pack of odd children. She was less careful then she had been with Archie, sensing this child to be more adventurous than the introverted spider boy. Making sure to be quiet in case Lou was on the trail of something, she hovered a few inches above the forest floor beside him, raising an eyebrow as if to say: 'find something?'

( otakrap ) Sylvie smirked and whispered without considering what Theo's question really was, "So you want in on what's outside eh? There's an old woman head who try to eat you. She has a lot of holes in the ground, and if you fall in it you could die. The old woman is strong and its pitch black inside the ground. I managed to escape, but I don't think you would." Sylvie's superstitious attitude made her act as if she just saw Bigfoot in person. She considered her discovery was equally as mysterious as a superstitious discovery and enough to brag about. Sylvie looked around to make sure there weren't any adults nearby, then continued whispering, "If you're interested though, I might be able to... break you out?"

Theo’s face went red as he gritted his teeth and whipped his head around to see for himself if anyone was around.
“I’m not asking for your help or survival stories, kid. I saw you and that boy last night. You botched everything up for me. What are the chances security’s gonna be bigger when we get back!-” He was so close to yelling. Not at Sylvie but rather at everything in general. Theo took a deep breath, looked back to her, and cut to the chase.
“I dunno why you’d wanna leave this place, but if you do things the way you did last night we’re both screwed. I can’t have someone else messin’ things up for me. So, here’s what’s gonna happen,” Theo jabbed his thumb to his chest and whispered, “you’re either gonna play along and do things my way, so we can both get out of that damned cage of an orphanage, or you’re gonna back off so I can do what I need to do.”

Lucy breathed. It's been a couple of minutes since she started fishing. It seems like there was no fish around the area she is fishing.
"Oh dear....."
That is.... until some felt like it got caught!
"Oh! I think I caught one!"
Lucy tries to step back to see what she got but it's like the fish she got is being stubborn. This may be a struggle!

Sylvie didn't receive the response she expected, or would have wanted. Her expression went from smug to a more serious face, "Oh yea tough guy? Who says you could do better?" Again, Sylvie was touching strings of danger, poking at its theoretical nerves simply as a reflex. In response, Sylvie felt a sharp pain on her right arm and backside. Sylvie still attempted to keep her confidence, "You don't get why I'd leave a 'damned cage of an orphanage?' Hehesss! What kind of plan could you have thinking like that?" Sylvie stopped and thought about how she'd put this situation in her favor. "Say... I'll listen to you... if... hmmmm... you give me your lunch."

"Fishing? Dangerous?" Earnest made a 'psssh!' sound, spraying spit out of his mouth recklessly as he tried to underplay her fears. "Of course not! No worries here! I'll be with you, so it will be alllllllllright!" He gave her two thumbs up before listening a bit closer to what she had to say. "We're going back to the orphanage tomorrow, no worries there! Yep yep! No need to be scared, no need!" He didn't seem to realize she meant her previous home. "OH!" Earnest seemed a bit surprised, but not discouraged by Theo joining them at a later date. "No worries! We'll meet you there, we will!" He turned back to Vulpe with a gaping smile. "Come on, then! I'll carry your spear!" He picked up another from the pile and waited for the fox child to follow him into the forest. "...Orfange?" Vulpe mused meekly. The boy speaking did not understand what she was saying, but it was likewise in reverse. Whatever he meant she wasn't sure on. Scrunching her shoulders Vulpe sulked down. Who knew if she would get an answer that she wanted. "Okay..." She muttered slowly taking a step forward.

Theo groaned. It did him no good to try to reason with her this way. He thought back to why he wanted to talk in the first place. “Look, all I’m saying is that I don’t want to be adopted like some kinda dog by some stupid adults. Even if you’re not like me, all I ask is that we cooperate with one another or else whatever I’m planning is ruined. And from what I’ve seen, I’m way better at being sly than you. See this?”
He pulled a small item from his pocket. It was a button. “I pulled this off o’ one of those maids’ outfits,” Theo grinned smugly, “Probably hasn’t even noticed yet.” Suddenly his eyes lit up.
“Tell you what, I’ll do you one better than lunch. If you promise not to cause a scene or sell me out to those keepers, I can swipe you extra helpings during meals for as long as I’m here~”

As little sense as that made, she responded, "You think you're more sly than I am? I CAN BE SL-" As soon as she began to start yelling that, she stopped herself. The combination of irony and loss was humiliating to her. So much that her face turned bright red and to the point of nearly being in tears. Her arms fumbled for a bit as she tried to put her mask back on only to realize she didn't have it with her. She then turned around and crossed her arms in attempt to still look cool, but in reality she was hiding her face in embarrassment. "Okay, fine.. I can help you out, but we're even. I'm not gonna tell anyone on you.. and.. I'm not going to be loud, but you better keep your deal!- ..starting now." Sylvie said while willing to go into denial to simply at least have a "draw."
