Carmella escorted the parents to the mess hall, where a meal was being prepared upon discovering there would be many less mouths to feed for tonight. The Keeper then returned to the main hall to gather the children, giving a nod to Machi to relieve her of her duties for the evening. She gestured with her chin for the children to follow, seeming to be on edge more so then usual. There was an odd silence that overtook them all, everything seeming to go still as they made their way towards the small door they'd all been told on day one to stay far, far away from. "This is the only time I hope any of you will have to come here," Carmella whispered, her hand tightening on the door handle. "I certainly wouldn't want her to take a liking to any of you." She glanced over each child, a mistiness to her eyes that could be mistaken for sorrow. She took out a single key from the neck of her dress and gently unlocked the door. "Let's go then. It's time to meet the Head Mistress." She pushed the door open wide and stepped aside, waiting for them all to descend into the darkness below. "I hope you find your way..."
OTHER INFORMATION Your character will descend upon many stairs, leading into total darkness. The walls are close to your sides, so you almost have to crawl through the halls. There are many passages and strange sounds coming from everywhere.
OBJECTIVE Try not to get lost. Perhaps locate a buddy to travel with. Find the Head Mistress and pray to leave this awful place soon.

Atticus was dragged along as always, having absolutely no clue what was going on. Everything had happened so fast that the crocodile boy barely had time to adjust. He soon found himself sitting at a door along with the other children, behind it a unsettling darkness. When the door was swung open and the chain to his collar dropped, Atticus looked to Carmella before letting out a huff of air and galloping down the stairs on all fours, chain dangling behind him.
Find your way....
What'd she mean by that? Find a way to see in the darkness? That wasn't hard for the boy. Find a way to survive? Again, that was second nature. As if on cue, however, Atticus' stomach growled. Find a way to eat..? That's the only thing the boy could think of. That must have been what she meant, explaining why the children hadn't been fed that day! Perfect!
As Atticus ran to the bottom of the stairs, he found himself heading head first into the wall. The collision caused the croc to reel back and grab at his head in pain. What followed were the sounds of the dangling chains catching up to him. That was no good, he couldn't hunt like this! The croc began wrapping the chains around his neck as though it were a makeshift scarf and slithered further into the darkness, looking for a spot where he could pounce on his unsuspecting prey.

Find your... way? Theo stared into the darkness, a feeling of fear and uncertainty taking over him. His feathers itched. His wings quivered. He was tired. This wasn't worth it anymore. “There's… mistake. There's been a mistake.” Theo turned to the direction of Carmella, “I don't belong here! I snuck in s-so I don't have to go down there, right?...” he tried smiling. “No reason to ask a fake orphan to go down there right-” his voice cracked.

Carmella stared down at the child darkly, not seeming to buy what he had to say. "It's not as bad as you may think. Just keep your chin up and continue to walk forward. Plenty of children have done this and come out just fine." She turned to Earnest and gave the bunny boy a push forward. "Earnest will take you. I'll be behind you. And all paths lead to the same place, so it doesn't matter which you go...or at least, it doesn't matter much." She stepped forward, electricity in the air buzzing around her, the faint sound of a 'bzzzzz' seeming to rattle from her entire being that reminded them all she too had once been like them. "Go on then, Theo. You'll be fine."

The fox child, now sitting against a wall with their legs against their chest, looked blankly and tiredly at the door then slumped back down into their legs. Why would they have to follow? Why should they bother? The feeling of hunger left them dissatisfied- trying to put the feelings away. No one would notice if they didn't come, would they?

Edel took one last apologetic look as his prospective children were led out of the room by the tall Keeper lady. I should have brought along a packet of crumpets for them all, poor devils. The seats were eerily empty without the presence of chattering children in the mess hall. He settled in a chair and his tail (albeit a phantom one now) shivered. To his left he could see that strange box-wearing man named Wolftrap. ...Wolf... trap. He turned to face him and offered a small smile. "How are you, erm, Wolftrap? I'm Edel - Edel Croft." He wanted to offer a handshake as well but couldn't quite bring his hands to stop quivering under the table.
Merle grinned at that, and skipped over to Theo. Although with their claws not yet fully healed they miscalculated and careened into a wall instead. "Uh?" The badge child stepped back and stared around. It was all suddenly dark, but... Right there, a pair of glowing brown eyes. "Oh, uh, hello! Wanna come along? I can be your buddy, if that's okay." Merle reached out to them with both hands open. (( zenguardian, C♡c♡, Miki Sayaka, sorta cassiroll ))

Despite the situation the orphans found themselves in, Jove was in rather high spirits. He found himself fixated with his now significantly shorter and freshly cut hair- twirling the ends in in fingers, along with a fresh set of clothes that had been provided to him. He was left almost guilty in a way, while he also hadn't gotten any supper the boy did get the opportunity to change and cut his hair between the game and now. He felt practically spoiled. Jove hardly payed attention as Carmilla spoke to he and the rest of the children. He had far more important things to focus on like feeling where his hairline met his neck or making sure his collar was just right. When the other children began to break apart from the small cluster they had formed and began to journey into the depths of the hall Jove snapped to attention, wiggling his toes in his shoes. "Oh! Uh... Okay?!" He bemused, trying his best to grasp the situation before venturing out into the hall. He held his hands in front of him, grasping out at anything that might be in his way. ((Jove is up for interaction! you can have him run into/grab your character. Updated appearance)) -- Iksel sat in the mess hall, impatiently drumming his fingers on the table in front of him in. Thing were incredibly quiet now, Iksel knew he should have gone easier on the the kids. But. that would have meant losing. Iksel curse his competitive nature as he stared at the nearby crumpet man desperately attempting conversation. His finger drumming increased in speed. He began grinding his jaw. The man was mere moments moment away from some very frustrated foot tapping.

Theo scratched at his collarbone. "I'm telling the truth! I'm a no-good impostor! I belong in the street- at least that's where I got something to eat!" He glared at Earnest before looking around to see if anyone more tolerable was nearby. But judging from how stern Miss Carmella was being, there was no chance he would be able to get out of anything that was decided for him. "Touch me once and I'll tear you to shreds," Theo mumbled to Earnest before obediently taking a step forward.

"Let's go then. It's time to meet the Head Mistress." She pushed the door open wide and stepped aside, waiting for them all to descend into the darkness below. "I hope you find your way..." They'd lost the dodgeball game against the parents, but to be honest Gear didn't expect much else. The adults were so strong; they really never stood a chance. Dodgeball was such an odd choice of activity for them to do. Instead of bonding, as was the intended purpose, Gear just felt even more anxious around the adults than before. And he was sure he wasn't the only one who felt this way. Right? Now, it was time for them to meet the Head Mistress of Crawford's. Their Keeper had bellwhethered them to a door that led down a long - not to mention dark - flight of stairs. In all of the time he'd spent at his previous home, he'd only ever seen the Head Master once. Was that a thing? Were all of the heads of the orphanages recluses? Gear mentally shrugged. The monster- er, Atticus, was the first to dive into the darkness. Figures it'd feel just at home down here... Gear snarked. His anxiety was already quite high, but knowing that he'd be trapped down in the darkness with that monster with no supervision nearly sent him over the edge of sanity. Any time he'd seen Atticus since they returned from the camping trip, it was always with him on a leash with one of the other Keeper's and staff present. Gear scoffed. Did they really think they could tame that beast? Gear progressed down into the darkness, having no choice to go back. The walls seemed to get closer as he descended the stairs, a smell akin to rotten eggs wiggling its way up his nose. There were sounds creeping up on him from all around, which he thought was downright freaky considering there was only a straight path in front of him. Or was there? It was so dark Gear couldn't tell. He stopped for a second, turning around in the darkness as he seemed to hit flat ground. The air felt less constricted, so he assumed he was in a wider space than before, which meant that he had no idea where to go next. At least on a straight and narrow path then was only one way to go - forward. Or back, which Gear would gladly have taken. Gear fleetingly considered calling upon his horn. It emitted light, after all. That way he'd be able to see down there. Maybe if no one was looking... He held his hands in front of him, grasping out at anything that might be in his way. Just as he thought that, however, someone collided with him from behind. Gear yelped in surprise, whipping around to face his assailant. "I knew they shouldn't have let you off your leash, you monster!"
Wolftrap had gotten valuable data from the dodgeball game, and he hadn't even broken a sweat, let alone raised a finger. The other adults were very competent. At least some of them were. The children tried their best, and from what he'd seen, Wolftrap was able to adjust his focus even further. The crocodile, the hawk, the fox, the rabbit... and the boy with the gear. He'd narrowed his selection down to those five. But he still needed more data. It was all awkward silence amongst the adults, but Wolftrap took advantage of the silence to mull things over. ...Wolf... trap. He turned to face him and offered a small smile. "How are you, erm, Wolftrap? I'm Edel - Edel Croft." He wanted to offer a handshake as well but couldn't quite bring his hands to stop quivering under the table. Wolftrap ignored the man to his right at first. He did not come to the orphanage to chat with invalids. This man - this Edel Croft fellow - likely wouldn't approve of his ideologies. Most people didn't. He turned to the man, but didn't take the hand offered to him, didn't even speak. Edel knew his name already. He didn't need to say anything.

Just as he thought that, however, someone collided with him from behind. Gear yelped in surprise, whipping around to face his assailant. "I knew they shouldn't have let you off your leash, you monster!" Jove stumbled back, a bead a salt water rolling down his cheek as he made impact with the other child. He looked into the darkness, trying his best to see who was in front of hm yet not even the faintest of outlines could be made out. The words spoken by the individual, who's voice was still unknown to Jove, caught the boy off guard. He was taken back, not knowing how to comprehend them or respond, though felt he needed to quickly for his own safety. "Uh... I..." Did the person in front of him know who he was? "Don't know who you are?" He questioned.

The baker's dull eyes widened at the sight of the two glowing points of white light up close now. He was feeling glad - with a sudden dash of guilt - at having been snubbed. " Uh, good to meet you too!" he said to nobody in particular. The fisherman didn't seem too welcoming, either. And the maid had gone somewhere else! So, that leaves...The lady in blue. Edel tried to keep his cool as he left where he was sitting to wander over to his last hope at shooting the breeze. "Ms Wilinburg, was it? Would you mind if I sat here as well?" A bit unnecessary of him to ask; there weren't very many adults in the mess hall anyway... (( ChibiGissy , sorta titee and zenguardian , waiting on Miki Sayaka ))

He was taken back, not knowing how to comprehend them or respond, though felt he needed to quickly for his own safety. "Uh... I..." Did the person in front of him know who he was? "Don't know who you are?" He questioned. Gear stabbed a finger towards the person in front of him accusingly. "Don't even TRY it, you- wait. Did you just... speak?" Gear deflated a bit, though still on edge. "You're not the monster, are you?" Gear must've gotten confused. As far as he was aware, the alligator only spoke in grunts and broken language. This person, whoever they were, clearly spoke and understood the words he was saying. The sigil on his forehead was still glowing. Taking a few more cautionary steps back, Gear lifted the bangs off of his forehead, slightly illuminating the area immediately around him.
The adults had been waiting in the dining room for a while now. Wolftrap was beginning to get impatient. What was the meaning of them being here? This was a waste of valuable time. "Where are the children?" he asked, not caring who answered as long as someone did. Despite his abyssopelagic characteristics, he didn't quite like being kept in the dark.
