The Imprisoned City: Basic Story
The city of Avengrad had reached an age of enlightenment nearly 50 years ago, with no signs of it stopping any time soon. Technology was advancing, literature was breathtaking, art was flourishing, and the city was nearly comparable to a utopia. Avengrad became the capital city of the country, with people from across the world coming into their enormous walls in an attempt to seek the knowledge and wisdom that seemed to emanate from the city itself. This was until a week ago. As though from nowhere, the king’s gates along with the walls to the city were closed off, impossible to open and effectively trapping its citizens inside. While this worried the city, slightly, their true fears were yet to be realized. Hundreds upon thousands of people began morphing into grotesque, ferocious beasts, killing anything and everything on sight without hesitation. The city of Avengrad soon became covered in a thick, black fog, the city no longer having any view of the outside world. Many citizens have gone into hiding, while other citizens have decided to fight against this plague. A poster was posted across the city, the author unknown, which says to meet inside Aurous Meadow if you wish to end this scourge once and for all. There are enormous blue auras cloaking the wall around the city border keeping people in as well as around Ruler’s District. Three pillars of the same blue aura are emanating from the three manors of each district, as well as one giant blue aura pillar erupting from Galia’s castle. A poster was posted across the city, the author unknown, which says to meet inside Aurous Meadow if you wish to end this scourge once and for all. Introduce your characters to one another! Aurous Meadow is a park located on the bottom layer in the Foorothe District.
Name: Florence Loftwill Age: 23 Gender: She/Her Race: Human Height: 5'5" Weight: 137 lbs Biggest Fear: The Unknown Personality: Cheerful, a bit odd, does not understand sarcasm, bouncy, tried to keep a positive outlook, conspiracy theorist Backstory: The daughter of famed and presumably deceased explorer Isaac Loftwill. She has been using her father's journals to concoct insane conspiracy theories about the world around her. She takes extreme pride in her heritage, idolizing her father as the greatest man to ever live while also having the desire to surpass him and become even greater. She was a mechanic, and during her time working her arm was caught in a mechanism and was torn off from the elbow down. Instead, of deciding to leave it as a stump, she built arm with different attachments, her favorite being the large pistol with the ability to fire off concentrated orbs of magic. Physical Appearance: Florence sat on a park bench, digging through her bag full of tools and robotic parts while keeping an eye out for any people responding to her poster, or any beasts deciding to rear their disgustingly malformed heads. With a light "Ah!" she removed a journal from the bag in question, flipping through it with her one good arm until she came across her designated page and began writing something down. " Day 8 of The Fog - No sign of clearing. Sun still in the same position its been in since the mist appeared. People are supposed to show up today. I really hope they do..." She somewhat frowned at that last sentence, quickly scribbling it out and writing in " I can't wait to meet them!" And drawing a small smiling face next to the entry. She closed the journal and placed it back in her bag, swaying her legs back and forth as she awaited for the arrival of her future comrades.

Name: Isla Emendeuth Age: 22 Gender: She/her Race: human Height: 5'10'' Weight: 148 lbs Biggest Fear: Never leaving Avengrad Personality: Generally stoic unless provoked. Sees herself as better than others. Gets lightly flustered when poked fun at. Values learning, exploring, and discovering. Has an interest in history and learning about what the world around her had gone through before her time. Backstory: She comes from a wealthy family and lived in the top layer of housing in Avengrad her whole life, specifically the Foorothe District. She was very focused on studying magical objects, neglecting her personal mana in the process, to the chagrin of both herself and her parents. She always regretted not strengthening her mana, but to make up for it she studied even harder in magic imbued objects and their spells, graduating from Aueyen just a year before the fog rolled in and prevented her from pursuing her dream- to one day leave Avengrad's walls and explore the unknown. During her early life, expectations were always very high for her. She started attending Aueyen as early as her parents could send her there, being age 13. She focused on her studies in order to live up to the standards set upon her, but always wished for something more. She took up playing the violin to please her parents at first, but ended up enjoying the stress reliever (when it was not in presentation to others) and kept with it. During her time in the school she learned how to play spells using imbued violins, eventually constructing her own battle-based violin for the purpose of protecting her when she one day left Avengrad. She never got the chance to use it in official battle, as one thing or another kept her from leaving the city again and again, until the present situation fell upon the world. Physical Appearance: Isla made her way carefully through the layers of Avengrad with a clear destination in mind- Aurous Meadow. As she went further down the layers of city and society, she presented herself with an upturned nose, as her parents had done all her life, but on the inside she was quite excited to see sights aside from where she'd always resided. Her face gave no hint of this excitement however, as she had an image to maintain no matter what state the world was in. The Emendeuth name was not to be spoiled by someone who already scarred it by failing to strengthen her mana throughout the years. She arrived in Aurous Meadow fairly quickly, as Foorothe district was the one that housed it. She had secretly hoped that it would be further, an excuse to travel more and learn more about her own world, but she couldn't argue when the sun was not even fully there to light the way. She came upon the girl sitting on the park bench and went about introducing herself, as there was little doubt in her mind that she could be wrong about this person being there for the same reason as herself. The childish swinging of her legs put Isla off just a bit, if only to second guess the skills the girl might possess. "You," She said in her medium, monotone voice, "Are you here in response to the poster?" She stood with her back straight and arms behind her back, only using her eyes to gaze upon the being much lower than herself. She awaited the response eagerly, as she was ready for others to arrive so they could set on their task- a true adventure, her very first. Her face remained stoic as she stood despite the zealous thoughts swimming in her head and the excitement electrifying her stomach.

Florence's head perked up as a voice called out to them, the girl looking around the area for any possible sources (other than the woman standing in front of her) and upon finding no other 'likely' sources, she fixed her gaze on the new figure. They mentioned the flier Florence had so haphazardly scattered from district to district over the week whilst being chased down by horrendous beasts, and her mouth spread into an enormous smile. Someone DID come! She literally leapt out of her seat and landed in front of the girl, grinning from ear to ear. "You read my flier!!" She chimed, happily. "Hi-ya! I'm Florence! Florence Loftwill, daughter of Isaac Loftwill!! It's a pleasure to meet you!" She grasped the taller woman's hand and shook it vigorously out of pure excitement that she wasn't going to be the only one in this journey to uncover the truth. "Oh Gods! I'm so excited!" She turned away from Isla, assuming she was talking to herself but was clearly loud enough for the newcomer to hear. "Finally, a new friend! Someone who's NOT a crazy beast! Oooooooh this is gonna be good! We're gonna be best friends! Play it cool, Florence, play it cool.." She stood back up from her hunched over position and pretended to lean up against a wall, despite there being no wall there. "So, what's your name?" She winked, barely being able to balance due to her overzealous attitude.

Then it hit her- "You read my flier!!" Oh, boy. She was going to have to answer to this overexcited girl during their time with one another. She quickly regained composure as Florence began talking once again. A new friend? Surely that's not what this Florence Loftwill person thought was going to happen. Isla Emendeuth did not make friends. She never planned for friends. She puffed her posture up at this, thinking highly of herself despite the depressing-sounding thought. She didn't need friends. Just comrades for the coming days' goals. She was a bit surprised at the winking gesture as none in her presence had ever done such a thing towards her, and while the smaller girl's presentation was a bit skewed from what she expected, she still had intentions of discovering what was wrong with Avengrad and needed to at least be acquainted to do so. This didn't stop her from thinking how sloppy of a display the girl had just put on, however. "Emendeuth, you may have heard the name." Isla bowed her head slightly for the introduction, "Isla Emendeuth."

Name: Vervain Hylaeus (last name pronounced "hi-lee-us") Age: 65 Gender: He/Him Race: Human for the most part, but he is technically a Dryad Height: 5'9" Weight: 140 lbs Biggest Fear: The absence of life Personality: Wise, experienced, and open-minded. Always finds a way to teach lessons to his allies and even his enemies. A peace-loving old man, teaching and gardening are his passions. Very intellectual; enjoys having nice thought-provoking chats. Makes lots of plant references. Enjoys drinking various blends of herbal tea. Good natured. Magic: Nature magic Abilities: Control/summon magical plants of all kinds to defend and attack. Uses a cane grafted from a world tree to channel his magic. It is called "Organon". Organon has an energy core at its tip, protected by the branches that make up the cane. As such, if the cane is broken, it is able to regenerate itself over time. Backstory: Hylaeus became a professor at the College of Aueyen after he graduated from there many years ago. Hylaeus has always had a strange passion for teaching, even when he was young. Unlike most people, Hylaeus had gained his magical capabilities at a premature age. No one knows where he came from, as he has no known family. It seemed as though he just integrated himself into society - that he just always existed, and people accepted that. Hylaeus uses nature magic. He can create and manipulate plant life around him. He can encourage the growth of wildlife, but if he summons plants that didn't exist before, they will expire after a duration. This landed him the position of overseer of the agricultural functions of Avengrad, as well as his teaching position at Aueyen. Hylaeus praises the goddess of the Earth, O'una, one of the lesser known Gods. A week ago, the gates to the city were mysteriously closed, trapping all of the citizens of Avengrad inside and cutting off all trade routes and contact with other civilizations. The worst of it came soon after that. The College of Aueyen was destroyed, and many of the students and faculty, in addition to likely the majority of civilians, were killed by the transformed beasts. Hylaeus fights to avenge his students and to return the city of Avengrad back to the Age of Enlightenment. Physical Appearance: {Vervains Reference Sheet}
Hylaeus walked through the forlorn streets of the Sindelt district, shaking his head at the sight. No matter how many times he's been though the city after the events that happened last week, he doubted that he would ever get used to the sight. It pained his soul to see such destruction and carnage. Perhaps this is why he decided to take up arms and hopefully end this nightmare. He stopped mid stride, glancing down at the energy orb protected by his cane, Organon. With the world tree in this city destroyed, he had no way to contact O'una. Such a traveststy. Continuing his stride, he eventually made his way to the Foorothe District. He was close now. The poster that requested assistance said to convene in Aurous Meadow. After he reached Foorothe, it didn't take very long for him to find the destination. After all, he knew the city of Avenged like the back of his hand. When he arrived, he saw two women talking to each other, one being quite excitable, and the other being more reserved. Hylaeus grinned. He could sense potential a mile away. These two were capable of great things. Stepping closer, he overheard the tallest of the two women introduce themselves... "Emendeuth, you may have heard the name." Isla bowed her head slightly for the introduction, "Isla Emendeuth." "Ah~ Miss Emendeuth. It is nice to see you again," Hylaeus said, giving a slight bow to Isla, now realizing why the tall woman looked so familiar. Then, addressing both ladies, he said "I am Vervain Hylaeus, former professor at the College of Aueyen. I am delighted to make your acquaintance."

Isla bowed her head slightly for the introduction, "Isla Emendeuth." Florence went dead faced when she heard the name Isla spoke, almost positive she must have said something wrong. There was no way such a prestigious family's member joined HER little ragtag group! No no, she surely heard wrong. Florence let out a hardy laugh as she leaned back and wiped a fake tear from her eye as she looked back at Isla. "Hahaha, I must be an idiot!" She chuckled, knocking her knuckle on the top of her head. "For a second, I thought you said Em-" Florence's eyes grew enormous as this new man confirmed her suspicions. She took a couple steps back, her eye twitching a bit. "I-I....just winked... at an Emendeuth..." She whispered to herself. She ran back up to Isla and bowed to her, yelling in an exasperated manner "OH GODS! I'M SO SORRY, M'LADY!! I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE OF SUCH A HIGH SOCIAL CLASS!! I'M SORRY!!" She stood up from her bow, her face flushed red out of pure embarrassment. She took a side step to examine the area once more, looking for the source of the noise that confirmed that Isla was indeed an Emendeuth, particularly checking the ground for any holes of sorts, and upon finding none walked up to Vervain and grasped his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you professor! I'm Florence! Florence Loftwill, daughter of Isaac Loftwill!" She chimed, wildly shaking his hand like she'd done with Isla. "Excuse me a moment." She took a few steps to the side and turned her back to them, 'talking to herself' once more. "Oh gods! Not only did you embarrass yourself in front of an Emendeuth, you embarrassed yourself in front of a school teacher! Stupid stupid stupid!! They're gonna hate you! You haven't been to school in years! Or....ever...actually... WHY DIDN'T I GO TO SCHOOL!?!?" She cried out in a defeated tone before gripping their fist in determination. "Play it cool, Florence, play it cool. They don't know you haven't been to school! Just pretend you have! It'll be fine!" Florence stood up from her hunched over position, pretending to lean up against a wall once more and nervously stammering out "So! Those books, am I right?" She chuckled. "Wooooooweee! Boy, do I love those books!" A bead of sweat rolled down the side of the girl's head. You're totally nailing this..

She then turned slightly to greet the professor. After Florence went and gave a similar greeting to the one she received earlier, Isla spoke up. "Professor Hylaeus. It is good to see you among the living," her voice gave no hints of being affected by the state of the world around her. She was aware of the horrible things that were happening to Avengrad, but it didn't hit her emotionally as the bloodshed stayed out of her family and immediate contacts. Isla once again took in the display as highly irregular, and finding it not to her liking, looked away. Isla turned her head back to Florence as soon as it seemed she was once again addressing her. She could have rolled her eyes at what the blonde said if she wanted to give away any sort of emotional response, but certainly did not want to do so. "Indeed," Isla said, expression and tone not changing to match her next sarcastic remark, "those books. Enlightening, I'm sure."

"Oh? You are Isaac's daughter? How amusing!" Vervain said, letting out a chuckle. Loft will was an eccentric man with radical points of view, but he was a good man. Vervain enjoyed his company when he had it, but they ceased contact years ago. To think he had a daughter... How very amusing.
Vervain let out a heartily laugh. "Gods! You really are your father's daughter! Well, Miss Loftwill, it'll be a pleasure working with you." He gestured around him, indicating the meadow they all stood in. "It's nice to see that this area is still in tact.. This meadow is one of the many that I helped develop. Do you like flowers, Miss Loftwill?"

Name:Quincy Marsh Age:19 Gender: She/Her Race: Human Height: 5'1" Weight: 102lb Biggest Fear: Animals Personality: Quincy is very concerned with the well beings of others, although a little too nosy and curious for her own good. She tries to do make friends with everyone she meets, even if she secretly doesn't like them. She is also incredibly skittish and her trust of others can be turned to suspicion at the slightest hint of betrayal. Backstory: Quincy grew up for the first five years of her life outside of the walls in a small community in the mountains, but her family left suddenly when her mother was attacked by a wild animal and killed. Her and her mother had never seen eye to eye, but she still keeps her mother's necklace on her, the only thing the parent had gifted her with. Her father, Talvin Marsh, packed up their things in the dead of night and they left with no explanation. Quincy has had a terrible fear of all animals, big and small, since the tragedy. When Quincy was seven, they moved to the city, her father managing to make quite a name for himself within the two years they'd traveled. He was 'new money', close to royalty status, and was an extreme show off when it came to his use of magic (which he''d gotten good at suspiciously quickly). He remarried to an even wealthier family in the city to a Miss Shirley Romare. Quincy's new mother was ecstatic to have a daughter, and pampered her and planned play dates with her and other rich children like she was her pet. Perhaps because she wasn't allowed one due to Quincy's fear of animals. Their relationship was strange, and always made Quincy uncomfortable. Quincy stayed in side most of her life up until this point. She read a lot of books on magic, the subject fascinating her, but never was interested in learning herself. However, that changed when the city went dark. She knew she had to find away to defend herself and stole one of her father's guns. She still hasn't fired it. She hasn't needed to. A strength she didn't know was within her had awakened, and she'd been defending herself just fine on her own. Her father and step mother were currently locked in their bedroom after turning into beasts. It forced her to leave her home in hopes of finding a cure, which is when she came across the flyer. And now she is here. Barely an hour after they changed. Physical Appearance: Quincy entered the scene, trembling from head to toe and rubbing her eyes like she'd been crying. She looked around at everyone as though they'd all turn into monsters at any moment, her lower lip quivering as she failed to even speak.
A familiar face seemed to capture her attention. Despite her past distaste for the woman, she was simply ecstatic too see someone she knew who was still themselves. She ran over Isla and put her arms around her, sobbing.

She ran over Isla and put her arms around her, sobbing. Isla was quite surprised at the gesture, as she hadn't been paying attention to who was coming and could not even discern who was currently holding her, using her as a tissue. After a few moments of thought, her mind went back to the little mouse of a companion she had every now and again in her youth. She hadn't changed. She sorely wished she could pretend she hadn't known her, but of course, present actions could not deny it. "Please-" She struggled, putting her hands on the girl's shoulders, attempting to pry the girl off. "If you please, what is the matter now, then?" She lowered her voice to mutter at the girl she'd been forced to spend time with as a child and spoke quickly. "I suppose you haven't thought about how terrible a first impression you are making on the others. What is the matter, girl?"

"I suppose you haven't thought about how terrible a first impression you are making on the others. What is the matter, girl?" Quincy was pushed away, and she sniffled a bit at the lack of comfort she'd received. She rubbed her eyes again before wrapping her hands around her shoulders in an effort to stop her shaking. "My father and Shirley...t-they weren't feeling well the last couple of days. W-We stayed inside when it happened. I've been taking care of them as best I can, but father locked all the staff out of the house. He wouldn't let me come in his room, either. And then Shirley stopped eating, a-and she wouldn't come out of the room too." Her trembling fingers raised to clutch at her hair. "T-They'd blacked out all the windows the first day. They wouldn't let me look outside, and I was too frightened to check even when they couldn't stop me anymore. There was scratching at the doors and growls at night, but they acted like nothing was the matter. I took father's gun. He didn't notice. I-I've never had to hurt anyone..." She trailed off for a moment as more tears pooled in her eyes. "I-It got in. One of them got in. It's dead now." She said flatly. "I-I went to go get father and Shirley. I couldn't go around it's body to close up the window again. But when I opened their door...t-they weren't themselves anymore..." She looked up at Isla, practically taring out her hair. "It had to be them, no one else was in there! there's no windows in their quarters. Father refused to have them. And these things...they're everywhere..." She was sobbing again. "I w-want to go back home! I don't like this, I'm scared!"

What the hell does enlightening mean..?Florence's smile faded quickly, the girl looking at Vervain with confusion. "You knew my dad??" She asked before running over to the bag she left on the bench, grabbing the notebook and pencil inside before running back over to Vervain. "W-what did you know about him!?" They said, excitedly, a new sparkle in their eye. "Where was the last place he told you he was going!?" Florence blinked at the professor for a moment, however, as he asked her whether or not she liked flowers. Florence put the pencil behind her ear and flipped through the journal she was holding. "Uh, yeah! I love flowers! My dad brought me back this really cool and rare flower when I was a kid, but uh... my mom sold it to some merchant, heheh." They tried keeping their cheery tone, despite a hint of malice in her voice. "Why do you ask?" Before she could get her answer though, she heard the cryings of a small child. Florence put on a brave face and lifted her gun arm into the air and firing a blank into the sky, causing any of the non mutated wildlife to flee the area. "Don't be scared, lady!" They said in an overly confident voice. "I, Florence Loftwill, will protect you! Those beasts don't stand a chance against us!" She walked towards the girl, her signature smile back on her face. "What's your name?" She held her hand out to the new girl.

It took her a few moments of panting before she slowly uncovered her head, looking around and noticing that the smaller creatures at least had left the area. "T-T-Th-Thank y-you," she stuttered, falling back as she put a hand to her pounding chest. "S-Sorry, I'm not u-used to g-guns." She realized she'd been asked a question. "Q-Quincy Marsh. "I just need to s-sit for a moment...p-please..."

I don't like this, I'm scared!" Shirley and Mr. Marsh? She means to say they're- Avengrad had it worse than she thought. She had never particularly liked the two growing up, but that didn't mean they deserved such a fate. It was a good thing the group gathered here to right the wrongs set upon their city, and Isla was eager to begin. Isla flinched at the sound of the shot, and the first break of character shone through in the form of a scowl. How could this girl know that a shot like that wouldn't draw beasts nearer? Sure the smaller animals left the area, but that noise could be a target if provoking the wrong beings. Isla crossed her arms and pondered the situation, continuing to frown. As she looked to Quincy and back at Florence she had a fleeting thought, "Don't you know you're going to scare the girl, you idiot?" The semblance of caring was masked by both her demeanor and the other thoughts of, "She'll never snap out of it now," and "How annoying." They needed a plan before they went asking for enemies to show. They needed to fully group up. That blank was dangerous.

Quincy let out a short scream when the gun went off, covered her head in fear and bending her knees so that she was almost sitting down. My father is T-Talvin Marsh. Shirley is m-my step mother." She held her knees close to her chest and stared wide-eyed at the ground, starting to go into shock. "I just need to s-sit for a moment...p-please..." She smiled at the girl. "Get used to it!" She chimed, not realizing the bluntness of her statement. "There's gonna be a lot of gunfire from here on out!" She motioned towards the bench where her bag was laying against. "Feel free to sit down on the bench! Just don't go through my bag, okay?" She winked before turning back to her new friends, noticing one of whom were frowning. Florence's heart immediately started racing. Did she do something wrong? What was wrong with Isla? Was this about the wink? Oh gods, she's still mad that Florence winked at her! Another bead of sweat rolled down the girl's head.
