"O- um... Okay." Red muttered as Carmella made her way out. Immediately they bolted heading straight for the room, burying themselves in an unoccupied bed. The others had already ruined any impression they could have made. Nothing to say these people wouldn't find them a freak if they knew. It was surely best if they tried keeping to themselves..

Merle looked quizzically at caretaker Carmella as they heard her speak. Aww, no head mistress to greet? I still want to meet everyone else~ Oh! Studying? If it was about this huuuge place, Merle would be delighted to learn! Questions bubbled up and they wanted tomorrow to arrive so they could ask Madam Carmella lots!
Excited, Merle tried hard not to skip through to the kitchen, twirl out with a platter of mashed potatoes and butterless hot-crossed buns, and hum up the stairs. They saw Theo almost immediately (and beamed), noted that the spider orphan was once again in a corner, waved at Lucy who was preoccupied with her meal, and gasped upon seeing the cool Jiang in this room!
Merle resolved to be a bit nicer to the spider this time, choosing a bed on the same side, but also tried to pick one between the far wall and the door. Had to make sure Theo wasn't still upset, of course.

Gear was beginning to make his way towards one of the other kids when their Keeper reentered the foyer where they were gathered. The clap alarmed Gear, and drew his attention to the stern-faced woman, who began firing off the rules and regulations of the place. As he listened, he could tell that not much was different between this orphanage and Freidman's. Security was more lax at the old orphanage, with the perimeter of the establishment having been bordered by tall gates with rotating guards. Their Keeper was old and quite slow, likely having been a turtle or other slow moving animal when he was young, so it must've been convenient to have the kids where he could see them from his study. Additionally, it was much better to let the children play outside than inside a rapidly aging home. They'd have to do renovations soon... Gear's attention snapped back to Carmella when she listed the room assignments. While he was somewhat glad to be in the same room as Lou, he had a hard time swallowing when she mentioned Octavia's name. Gear could imagine waking up to utter darkness, his eyes having been devoured by the scavenger sometime during his slumber. He shook the thought out of his head while he still had one, and reached over to pinch himself on the arm. He was overreacting. Since when did he become so fidgety? He took a breath, having reassured himself that everything'll be fine. Who knows? Maybe he and Octavia could be friends. Lou was right. She's not that scary. If you don't look too hard... he thought. Gear and a couple of the others filed into the mess hall where they received a light dinner provided by their hosts. There was a small variety to choose from, and Gear opted for a cold cut ham sandwich not-so-neatly divided into two uneven triangular portions all to be washed down with a carton of milk. He'd eaten his fill before he came to Crawford's, so he wasn't very famished, completely unlike a certain canine. Gear couldn't help but eye the heap of food Lou had piled onto his tray. Unbelievable, he thought to himself. No way is he going to be able to finish all of that!Gear eventually made it to the third floor where his bed was assigned. As he entered the room, the buzz of over two dozen other orphans echoed around the room, small pockets of banter and conversation happening in various sections of the long room. A small number of the kids greeted him, but most of them just glanced at him, not bothering to say much of anything and continuing their activities. Gear found an empty bed near the entrance and chose that to be where he would sleep for the rest of his stay at Crawford's. Once he got settled in, he began eating his dinner.

Archie shuffled slightly to the side as Theo knelt next tot him, the boy still trying his best to avoid eye contact with the bird boy as he continued fiddling his thumbs. "I don't need it.. I'm not hungry..." He reiterated, trying his best not to sound hostile. "I'm okay, really. I just..... I just wanna sit here, that's al-" Archie stopped mid sentence as drool began dripping from his fangs again.
He quickly grabbed his napkin, pushing it to his face and allowing the liquid to soak in whilst his face lit up like a strawberry. Everytime I talk, I always drool. Stupid fangs... Archie kept his napkin to his face as his face continued to brighten red. "I'm fine.. The food looks gross anyways.."

"2 hours outside?... no thank you." she mumbled to herself. Sylvie took her dinner with her to eat since she wasn't interested in showing her face. Sylv slowly made her way up the stairs onto the third floor. Some kids already chose their beds, but there were plenty of other beds to choose from. In actuality there were too many beds to count. Instead of being fascinated by the number of beds, Sylvie continued her stream of constant negativity with a groan. "All they have here is beds. I don't want to sleep here." Her thick accent could be heard due to the fact that this was the first thing she had said out loud. Sylvie walked across the beds, noticing some were dirtier than others. Luckily she wasn't too late to be forced to choose one of them. After walking across about half way through all of the beds, Sylvie put her mask on the pillow of one of the beds to the right and rustled the blankets to make it look like someone was sleeping in the bed. She opened the window next to the bed she chose. Sylvie loved danger. She preferred being on the third floor for this reason. Sylvie took a brief look outside before continuing to leap out of the room. The breeze of the wind caused by the fall got Sylv's adrenaline pumping. Her "epic fall" ended up as more of an "epic fail" due to a crash landing. Instead of crying out loud, Sylvie coughed out a bit of venom. She couldn't get up immediately, and had to take a few pills to remedy her cough. "Ow..." she said just loud enough for anybody who would be near the open window to hear.

Carmella's voice bellowed through the room, piercing their eardrums as her gentle exterior faded. Jiang had already become accommodated to the rules, and as far as Carmella went it wasn't necessarily unnatural for the mistress of the orphanage to flop between stern and sweet. They only dealt with children all day after all, one would only get worn with time. As she familiarized the rest with the rules, Jiang listened closely for the room arrangements only to find out the only two whose names she had known were settled in the room above her. While it was obvious Earnest wouldn't be, she secretly hoped Red would be on the same floor as her. She gave a light shrug however, and nodded as she began to head upstairs. Upon doing so, she offered a slight wave to the fox child before departing. On their way over, the crowd of children stopped at the kitchen for dinner to shovel onto their plates to take to their rooms. With her plate in hand, she kicked off her shoes before nudging them with her foot in a proper pair under her bed before plopping down. Leaning in to take her first bite, she noticed the child from earlier gasp in her direction before promptly taking a seat himself. "I-" she cleared her throat, as to not choke on her food, "Uh, welcome. Thank you for the compliment earlier," she waved in the badger's direction before stealing a glance at the other children. One of them had been an arachnid of sorts, and had possibly the most drastic of changes she had ever seen. Truthfully, she was surprised to see he was even here being how "quick to judge", to put it nicely, other people could be. Though it was either here or nowhere, she figured. The child spoke sheepishly, barely attempting to make eye contact with anyone as he did so. He was probably and most understandably the most skittish of them all.
"If you judge all the food here by its looks, you're not going to eat much," Jiang nodded. "It usually tastes better than it looks to be fair. It's better to have something than nothing, not all meals have equal portions after all depending on our funds." She swallowed another spoonful, "I'm Jiang if you didn't hear earlier. You guys are...?"

"Ow..." she said just loud enough for anybody who would be near the open window to hear. As Lou made his way into the room, he scoped out a bed and found one on the left side to take as his own. With a chipper giggle, he went to engage in his first bite of grubby goodness, only to avert his attention to a small voice he heard outside. "Whas' that?" he pondered. Noticing the open window, he decided to peer out. A small girl was laying on the ground and seemed to be immobile, and in pain. How interesting, and entertaining! "Oi, what're ya doin down there?" He shouted down.

"Oi, what're ya doin down there?" He shouted down. Sylvie turned around to the dog kid she saw earlier. Adjusting her position so that she was sitting instead of pathetically laying on the ground, she replied, "What does it look like I'm doing!? I'm trying to esca-" As she started to yell that, she realized how backwards her actions were. Her face was also looking directly at Lou, revealing her right snake tooth and left broken snake tooth. Her accent was blatantly able to be heard as well. Absolutely being flushed with embarrassment caused Sylv's face to be doused in the color of red tomatoes. "I'm going out to walk. You can join if you want, but don't tell anyone okay?" Sylv then got back on her legs, limping and wobbling in the process.

"Huh, from up here it looks like you were takin' a nap!" he chuckled loudly, "Either you're really brave or really stupid, hehyeeh! So close to curfew.. Why not!" He laughed his hyena laugh in a high pitched bellow before he darted his way down the stairs. He wasn't about to risk jumping out of a window. Hopefully his sneaky tendencies will help him make it to the entrance unnoticed.

It was true that Sylvie was brave, but because of this her actions were stupid as well. She wasn't sure what to make of Lou joining her, but at least Lou wasn't trying to outshine her in escape methods. At least in her mind that mattered. Sylvie continued to watch the open window above, briefly checking the sides of the orphanage to see which direction Lou or any possible Keepers might appear.

As Sylvia limped along, a crumbling sound could be heard directly in front of her. A large head popped up not a moment later, dust billowing into the air. "Oy!" The woman seemed quite comfortable with being down in the depths of the dirt, although she sounded a bit muffled with her mouth still underground. "Whattaya think yer doin', sneakin' out on the first night?!" She pulled herself out a bit more, wiping away some of the dirt. "You aint one a my kids! Yer Carmella's aren't cha? That bloody bitch!" She spat harshly onto the ground before adjusting her goggles. "Ye better scurry along back inside before a less kind Keeper than mean old Keeper Hattie comes tah grab yeh." She tapped the tip of her head, seeming to be referring to herself with that new name. "I've placed plenty of me pitfalls around tonight. You can try but if ye fall in one you'll be in my domain." She smiled wide, revealing an unnatural set of teeth. "And trust me, kiddo, ye don't want that~."

As she ate half of her food, Lucy notices that Merle wave to her. She waved to her new acquainted friend back. No matter how tough it is, it seems there will be those that got your back.
As she continued to eat her food, she noticed the dragon girl's interacting with the spider boy and Theo (mainly the former from what Lucy can gather). I wonder what's going on there??
Once Lucy finished her food, she sighed of relief.
"Ahh, that surly was good." Lucy chimed, feeling grateful she got to eat more than what she ate when she was on the streets.
Lucy jumped out of her bed for a moment (She tried not to jump too high though.) and she walked over to Merle.
"Hey Merle!" Lucy greeted, smiling "Isn't it great that we're both on the same floor?"

Theo groaned and looked over at his acquaintances from earlier. They seemed to be happy that they were all together. Before he could say anything else to Archie or leave him be, another kid chimed in. It was the dragon girl from earlier. His feathers suddenly started to feel a bit itchy from unease. ".... I'm Theo." He scratched at the area around his collarbone, avoiding direct eye-contact. Despite her scaly appearance, Jiang definitely had a friendlier atmosphere about her. Archie was probably more likely to heed her words than his..

Archie jumped once more as a new person decided to involve themselves in this small conversation. The boy looked up at the figure for a brief moment to scan their features before his eyes darted to the ground once more. His face became about as pink as it could get as he continued holding the napkin to his face, not daring to risk spitting venom over any of the other children.
"I-I'm Archie.." He repeated, trying to muster up the strength to be assertive. "And I don't want to eat right now. I'm not hungry! I don't need to eat right now, I can wait til tomorrow! I'll probably sleep soon anyways, so thanks but I'm fine! I don't need anything." He snapped, somewhat shakily from fear of rubbing the others the wrong way.

cassiroll"Aye, that sounds like a challenge!" Lou spoke from around the corner, approaching the two. He folded his arms and his questionable grin stretched across his lips once more. "Challenges can be fun!"
