"Oh," Jiang's shoulders drooped at the mention of the child's parents, "I'm sorry to hear that." While the sullen info was conveyed a bit blunt, she noticed a slight accent attached to the manner in which they spoke then. She quirked a brow, finding intrigue in her contemporary's pronunciation. "A dress? You should show me sometime," her hands clasped together as her pupils beamed. Jiang hadn't owned any dresses herself, being much too shy to don such apparel and risk the hardened gazes of others. Regardless, it didn't necessarily erase the interest she had in the garment itself. She was pulled from her stupor upon realizing Red outstretched their hand and inspect her own bearings. Jiang cocked her head to the side, before her cheeks grew hot at the mention of the appeasing color in comparison to her own features. "Oh! Thank you!" One of her feet traced a circle on the floor as she scratched the back of her head. The girl quickly sought to straighten herself out until a nearby voice caught her attention. Cool? Her mind buzzed with all varieties of white noise for a moment's time before gathering her thoughts. Perhaps the new arrivals were actually a hospitable bunch of fellows. Sneaking a glance over her shoulder, she searched for the source of appraisal finding it to be a wide-eyed child with ears that were possibly... a badger's? She had only judged in comparison to their bottom claws, but it was very well up for debate. "Are you acquainted with anyone else, Red? Are you interested in talking to any of the others?" Jiang asked, peering around the room as she did so. "Ahahahahah." Their laugh was rather stilted, sounding almost completely forced despite the fact it was nothing but genuine. "Why yes, of course, of course. Nothing short of an observation." Drawing their hand back they paused for a beat. "..It is nothing to have worry about, Bru insists it was for the best anyway that they have passed. I do say I will have to agree. Ah, but yes, the dress, the dress." Holding their hand to their chin stiffly, they muttered out a small addition. "One of the others will have to show that sometime.." Noticing that the girl had begun to look around the room, and they slyly followed her gaze trying not to be obvious in anyway and completely failing. Once the girl spoke again Red's tail began flopping uncontrollably once again, seeming to no longer have the social graces of a toaster their odd facial expression dropped. "Oh," Trying to address Jiang's question, Red paused slightly. "Don' know no one else here, 'sfor sure.." The voice now came out at a slightly higher tone than before. The overbearing accent now gone. "Uh, wouldn't kill no one, I guess.."

Octavia let out a long and drawn out sigh as she absently began to toy with one of her earrings once more. The conversation between the two younger children was incredibly dull. She was almost bored to tears- if the apathetic teen had the energy to cry. She scanned the room for something more interesting- just in time to catch one of the other children whispering unsavory words about her.
How dare he.
With a crumpled brow Octavia glared a few daggers his way. She remember the kid from the carriage ride, his lack of obvious animal features was annoying- there was nothing distinctive about the child at all. The only reason Octavia recognized him was due to how average he was in a sea of oddities.

He gripped tighter at his shirt and swallowed hard. They won't like you. They'll think you're a freak. Don't bother, stay in the corner. Archie reached out and hesitantly took hold of Earnest's hand. "O-o-okay..."
"Indeed~!" Machi responded once she realized Carmella had been speaking to her. "It's cute to see a group of kids so eager to befriend one another. I would have imagined it would be like pulling teeth to get them to interact with one another. Nice to see a group of social butterflies~!" She chimed cheerily, rocking back and forth on the heels of her shoes. Carmella's last statement did leave a somewhat sour taste in her mouth. Machi didn't particularly want to see the children's fun ended so soon. Listening to them simply spill information from their mouth was something the maid was keen on continuing, but she knew she had little power to keep the excitement from ending. "Oh yes, it would be quite the shame." She responded, still smiling despite her tone shifting to a more neutral attitude. "But at least they're getting acquainted now. It will make living here that much easier, yes~?" She cooed, her chipper tone returning. Earnest let out a gleeful shriek as he felt his new friend's hand wander into his palm. He practically dragged the spider boy over to the bird lady, only releasing him once they were practically on top of her. He waved at her fiercely, his other hand in a tight fist that reflected the slight tremors of intense excitement going through his whole frame. "HELLO!" He boomed at her. "How are you, how are you! I'm Earnest, and this here is Archie!" He pointed at the spider child with both hands. "I'm apart of the welcoming committee. If you have any questions ask me! And if you're looking for some funny jokes, ask Archie here! He told me a real good one earlier, so good, right?" He looked back at Archie and mouthed 'socks' before tilting back his head and cackling. titee
"Yes..." Carmella's frown had returned with a vengeance. "...It's good to see them getting along." She turned away from Machi, fixing her hat as a slight tremor shook her shoulder's. "I should--I should go check on Head Mistress. I'll be back shortly, I entrust the children to you in the meantime Miss Machi." She briskly made her way into the main hall and vanished behind one of it's doors. The sound of her echoed footsteps as she descended below the first floor seemed to comfort her.

In addition to their sparkly eyes, Merle clasped their hands together in excitement. And then just about flinched at the new question, suddenly brought back to Theo's - and everyone else's, really - reality. They flattened their ears. "I'm happy we're all different but still the same, and can be here with others like us... you know?" No?"If... you don't wanna, we can stop talking, Theo." Merle had averted their gaze, not wanting that smoldering golden to scald their hopes. Merle's ears pricked at the loud voice of the bunny boy in the corner with a spider child, and felt a pair of eyes burn into the back of their neck just as immediately. Merle had to turn around. Oh! It's that fox and the dragon I mentioned earlier~ Merle smiled warmly and raised a hand slightly in greeting to the dapper fox, hoping they weren't too shy, and that they too could be a new friend...? ♪ (( ChibiGissy + C♡c♡ + Miki Sayaka )) ((Also, vaguely, cassiroll + MonkeyandMooseInc + norimo ))

Lucy frowned and shook her hear at Theo's response.
"No, no! I was only curious. That's all" Lucy said nervously "I'm sorry if it seemed like it.."
Lucy looked down on the floor, feeling a bit nervous.

"Heck no! This gotta be my third orphanage er somethin' like that." His small eyes widened at the question, surprised it was going well, that is, until someone besides him ruined it. "That's the same as me! This will also be my third orphanage. He giggles to himself, staring down at the feathered lady, up and about in a tizzy. "If that's what ya call a lady," he riles himself up in fit of laughter at his own joke. Gear turned close to him, his ear perked up to listen intently. "She got no business preyin' on someone like me. I could take her with my hands tied behind my back!" He bragged proudly. His cocky attitude seems to often get the best of him. "Oh! Now that I think about it..." Gear took a step back and looked over the boy before him. "... you look a lot like a dog! You've gotta be pretty strong then, right? That bird lady looks a lot like a vulture. I heard they pick the flesh off of bones." She scanned the room for something more interesting- just in time to catch one of the other children whispering unsavory words about her. How dare he. "Ack...! I think she heard us. We should probably introduce ourselves to the others."

Theo softened his glare, looking somewhat regretful. He didn't mean to snap. It would do him no good to cause a scene. These other kids didn't have the same life that he did, but they still had something in common. He had to remember to keep his temper under control. "No.... I'm sorry." Theo avoided eye-contact with them as he spoke, head turning to look at the other children in the room. Some were aloof, some were being social. "I'm not used.... to talking is all."

Couldn't handle ya? That's why they did away with me!" As much as Lou enjoyed Gear's company, his inability to censor himself or think before he talked, yet again, got in the way. "Aye, close enough! Dog sounds better anyways, hyeehehe!" His toothy grin passed over yet again with his signature chuckle, "Right! Vulture's got a prettier mug than that one, ye? Heheaha!! I wouldn't worry 'bout her. But you're right!" Lou agreed to the sentiment of meeting others. His paws fidgeted into a fist, beginning to feel something in his gut. He got lucky his conversation went so well this time around, it's about as rare as a blue moon. Hopefully his streak of luck will continue on with the others.

Carmella returned shortly after her descent into the basement, her frown managing to look even more distraught if that were possible, worry lines inching across her brow that made you wonder how she'd avoided so many wrinkles over the years. She took to a small stool that she'd dragged with her from the floor below in order to make herself taller, clapping her hands loudly to get the attention of the children. Earnest stopped pulling at Archie, visibly flinching from the sound. He released Archie's hand. "Fun's over," He mumbled, his ears drooping. "Attention!" She bellowed, sounding more like a warden than a caretaker. "Our Head Mistress is too ill to greet all of you this evening, so we shall post pone her speech for a later date. I'll have to go ahead and explain what is expected of you during your stay here at Crawford: After 10pm, lights are out! No one is allowed outdoors or in the halls unless you are making your way to a washroom. We have night staff in the halls at various posts to keep track of you. Don't even think about going on your merry way for a midnight swim or snack. On the topic of food, those 15 and over will be assigned various positions of work, including the kitchen. Meal preparation is very important. Any caught snacking while working will be punished severely! Those under the age of 15 shall study during recreation hours in the mess hall. Children 9 and under may explore the building or enjoy the recreation room on the main floor. There are two hours of our door activity allowed each day between the hours of 4 and 6pm. Free time for all is from 8pm to 10pm. You are expected to be awake and ready for breakfast by 7am sharp each morning. Punctuality is something I take very seriously as your Keeper. If you have any questions, feel free to approach me tomorrow. We have no more time for the evening, as it is already quite late. A quick dinner will be served in the mess hall and then all must head to your rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Room assignments are as follows: Second floor: Archie, Renette, Gustaf, Merle, Li Jiang, Lucy, Theodore Third floor: Octavia, Oliver, Earnest, Sylvie, Vulpe, Lou. Now, off with you!" And with that, Carmella left in a hurry, picking up the stool and taking it with her as she scurried back to the basement. Current Objective:
The children have been allowed to eat in their rooms for the evening to get to know their roommates and staff members. Talk to someone you haven't spoken to before, make a new friend...or enemy. Note: You may choose where you want your staff member to go.

Archies frowned as he realized he and Earnest, the only person who'd even bothered to talk with him, weren't in the same room together. Upon hearing the keeper's snappy tone, however, Archie was not going to ask questions. He scurried off to the second floor dormitory, not even bothering to stop by the kitchen for supper. With all the anxiety built up over the day, there was no way he'd be able to keep his food down.
That and eating with these new fangs was exceedingly difficult, and quite frankly, embarrassing.
Archie chose a bed closest to the corner of the room, hoping to keep out of the way of the other, more normal children. He couldn't help but stare and frown at how 'normal' they looked compared to him. His feet pittered against the carpeted floor as he sat in the corner of the room, sinking to the ground with a soft thud and twiddling his thumbs, hoping he wouldn't get in anybody's way.
Machi frowned as the children were rushed away, having barely had any time to acquaint herself with them. She quickly wiped that frown away, however, and decided to look on the positives. More children meant more possibilities~! Machi bowed to Carmella as she left the room and clapped her hands together.
"Chop chop, children~! You heard Carmella!" She chimed in a sing-songy tone, smiling warmly at the kids. "You'll have plenty of time to play and get to know one another in your rooms~! And I look forward to meeting each and every one of you myself~! If you need anything, let me know! I'd be more than glad to help." She cooed, placing her hands behind her back and bowing to the children.
"I'm Machi~! I tidy up around here~!" She sung, her voice warm and soothing.
With that, Machi turned around and practically skipped out of the room. As she left the children's range of view, her steps slowed and her smile faded. She couldn't help but wonder where the other helpers had been through all of this. Surely they'd wanted to meet the children as well, yes? No matter. For the time being, Machi continued wandering through the orphanage, her smile returning, although somewhat crooked this time around...

Theo jumped in surprise, but calmed down rather quickly. He paid close attention to what Miss Carmella had to say.
His stomach lurched. So there was security involved…. Of course there’d be. Theo cursed his luck until he decided to tell himself “calm down, you’ve got time to see what this place is actually like.”
And now he had to share a room with Merle, Lucy, and a few of the others. As long as he got some sleep and food, he didn’t care who he was with. Grimacing at Miss Machi’s cheeriness behind him, he followed the others upstairs. “How patronizing. I hate it.”
~
Theo took his meal and chose the first bed he saw. It was a little bland, but anything was better than nothing. He glanced at the others, thinking Merle or Lucy might try talking to him again. Maybe he accidentally scared them?...
He looked over at the spider boy sulking in the corner. Theo’s nosy side got the best of him:
“Oi, Arachnid. I didn’t see you eat anything. Aren’t you hungry?”

Archie jumped at the sound of somebody calling his attention. He turned his gaze back towards the floor when he identified who had called him out, not particularly fond of being called 'arachnid.' "N-no.. I'm not hungry.." He responded, his voice shaky. He didn't want to cause any problems, and opted to say as little as possible in order to play it safe.
"A-and... it's, uh... Archie.." He muttered, his eyes still glued to the floor.

Lou's eyes remained lazy and his smile remained smug the entire duration of her speech. He found it quite boring, and the information hardly stuck with him, but he was still enthusiastic of the ideas. The one true time his brain really focused on anything was when she was mentioning dinner. Otherwise, something about curfew, something about chores, right? Probably. That's how it usually ran at the other orphanages he's attended. Most likely, nothing out of the ordinary. He quickly made it to the mess hall to look at what was being served, for that was easily his top priority. Once he grabbed a heap of food, then ordered to put some back, he took his tray and began his way up stairs.

Maybe talking to the guy wasn’t such a good idea… He was a nervous wreck, definitely. Theo just couldn’t stop himself from noticing these kinds of things. Maybe it was actual concern that made him speak up. Maybe it was annoyance of some kind. Either way, Theo made his way across the room, deciding to press on:
“It’s no good to skip meals. It’s not that bad,” he kneeled and held out what he had left over. “Here, take the bread part if you want. I don’ need it. Or is that no good?”

With the announcements Carmella and Machi had, Lucy went to the kitchen and was able to get the food.
And with that, Lucy, along with the other kids that were present, went to go upstairs to the second floor. This has been her first time she has been. She went into the room as she sees couple of mattresses there. Other then Merle and Theo, there are others she is not too familiar. There is the spider boy, a polar bear girl, an elephant boy seems to be shorter than Lucy, much to her surprise, and the dragon she saw with Merle earlier. From what she can gather, she sees that Theo is talking the spider boy.
"Hmm, I wonder if I can join that conver-" Lucy interrupted by the her stomach growling.
Before she arrived in the orphanage, the food she had were very minimal. Most she ate was bread that fell from cardriges when no one else. She from the that she sat on one of the beds and ate her food.
